Pels getting a new or renovate arena? I remember there was a interview when they pretty much admitted the SKC was outdated. Anyway here is the new OKC arena

Well if it took Saints like 44 years than I'm guessing we got twenty more years to go?

That ownership group actually gives a frick about its fans and not the clergy.

Pelicans are doomed because I doubt New Orleans will ever build a new arena
to think the Smoothie King Center has been outdated for at least a decade now
they would need to do some serious renovations to make Smoothie King Center functional to keep the concerts rolling in and keep the NBA franchise happy
Maybe they could connect the Superdome with the arena with new amenities

They need to build the new stadium where the old arse factory is on the riverfront. Revitalize that area with commerce and actually give something more on that side of the bridge.

The overwhelming majority of the funds for their new arena is coming from taxpayers, not ownership.

plus, they only have the one team to support

Building a new arena to be 60% empty doesn’t sound like a smart move.

Last year royally sucked.
Had 3 years of at least the play in with Willie and things were looking up. Was hyped af goin into last season with the same team that made the playoffs plus Dejonte and hope of healthy Z.
Man crazy how one awful year can push back the energy of a franchise... Excited for this year with the rooks tho
Think we would need to string together 3 playoff years in a row before ownership starts getting serious on a new arena

Pelicans will have to be in a different city before they get a new arena.

It’s a growing business friendly city, not a place dying barely in the top 60 market.

I mean I know you're new, but you know the answer to this question.

Money well spent when your GM and Owner invests in winning. Shamit even noted in his blogs how much OKC and the state of OK is invested in building a winning culture meanwhile the Pelicans are a poor man’s team.

Are they still undefeated in Summer League too? They are certainly not going away anytime soon.

The new Oklahoma City arena for the Thunder will be funded with nearly $1 billion in public funds, primarily through a 1% sales tax increase. The total cost of the arena is expected to exceed $1 billion, with the Thunder ownership group contributing $50 million
If this is the cost, hopefully never.

Madison says the NBA seems to be pushing brand-new, state-of-the-art arenas where the league and home team can generate higher basketball-related income. “That counts as ticket sales. That counts as merchandise. That is concession sometimes too. Newer arenas tend to drive those sorts of purchases. It brings in more revenue for the league which then gets split amongst the owners, the players and that’s how everyone makes their money.”

A new modern NBA-ready arena could cost billions of dollars.

I much rather tax dollars being spent on a new arena than on “The Ten Commandments” in our schools and public places.
