Tell your parents to stop clicking sponsored links. Scammers are getting good.

My mom has a bad habit of this and almost got scammed today. Thank goodness she called me to check.

She always clicks sponsored links in her Google results to get to Amazon, Target, etc. She does it for Amazon today and gets taken to this:

Pretty crafty. It's an Item List created by "Amazon" with a pretty convincing profile photo. The scary message is the name of the list. I went to the "Amazon" account's page to see their other lists.

The other lists have normal names and products. The instagram link takes me to this wellness chick from the the UK. I'm guessing they got her Amazon account info and use it to host the scam list and phone number.

Gonna have some fun and call the number tonight. Can't stand a frickin scammer. This one is pretty easy to spot but an old person would 100% fall for it.

Are you talking about the links people pay to advertise in Google?

Yes, the ones at the very top of the search results that have a "Sponsored" header above them.

I had a business card account number skimmed from a gas station in GA. They were sending cheap plastic crap to my office in Nashville under my name with purchases showing on my CC statement as “Amazon-Logistics” or something similar.

Looked passable, but I definitely wasn’t ordering makeup brushes, underwear, q-tips, etc. They were sending cheap objects to make it look legit, but were charging $8-25 each time. Multiply that times hundreds/thousands, and it’s a pretty convincing grift that maybe you just forgot or someone got your Amazon credentials.

Google is a POS then for allowing that. I run marketing for companies and Google will flag the most stupid of things in a linked site. But they will allow that…. Smh

I was watching Prime the other day and one of the commercials was on. I accidentally bumped my remote with my hand and a message pooped up saying “product added to your cart.” It wasn’t my Prime account but i need to make sure and tell my SO to go delete it. But is that a thing? They are now adding stuff to your cart while you watch a movie?

I activated the Assistive Access feature on my dad’s iphone. This has been a game changer.

No more unknown texts, phone calls or voicemails. Also blocked the apps that were causing trouble. He hasn’t been charging or buying stuff since the feature was turned on.
