This isn’t helping anyone. Certainly not doing any favors for the campaign against illegal immigration.

Very few people are actually against (key word here) deporting illegals, but a lot of people are against this. Too many folks here falsely believe that Visas or procedural technicalities / issues pending legal resolution are not real, and that none of those people wind up in prisons.
Too many folks here turn a blind eye when DHS moves to suspend habeas while Homan explains to the public that ICE does not need probable cause to detain people.
I’m all for deporting illegals, but this is well overboard.

Star student Sara and her mother were taken from their Mastic, New York, home, said fiancé Santiago Ruiz Castilla. The ICE agents claimed they were looking for someone else entirely when they entered the family home -- but they chose to detain the two anyways.
Sara followed steps to legally migrate to the United States and does not have a criminal record. The Colombian national was in the midst of obtaining her permanent residency, a lengthy process.
"She was a 3.9 GPA honors student, absolutely an incredible student, a student leader," Dr. Morelli emphasized. Sara mentored her fellow students and was studying to be an interior designer. She also designed part of a local women's shelter.
"There's an emptiness there that has hit a lot of her classmates hard, because she was in the peer mentor program," SCCC professor Cynthia Eaton said.

I'm sure there is more to the story...
She'll be fine.

If she was that intelligent why didn’t she take care of her citizenship?

Is she here legally?

Most people who think this argument covers everything don’t know anything about obtaining a visa or citizenship.
Read the italicized part of the post.
This isn’t a one-off, it has happened a lot.

Is she an illegal or not?
Do you think Colombia allows Americans without Visas or immigration status to live there? (They don't)

I mean she was detained in her home & sent to a detention center here. Immigration court and DHS can do whatever they want right now. Hopefully they do the right thing.

Look it’s a cool story that she came and did well. The problem is the idea that American tax dollars are for those who came here illegally. You just encourage the behavior if you reward her. No one argues that people can’t come illegally and work hard and succeed. It’s a question of fairness to citizens and others who are waiting to do it legally.

I’m not going to repeat the same thing over and over. Read the reply to the person who asked the same question & the italicized portion of the OP.
From OP:
Sara followed steps to legally migrate to the United States and does not have a criminal record. The Colombian national was in the midst of obtaining her permanent residency, a lengthy process.
The answer to “was she a citizen” is complex. She was in the process of becoming a citizen.
That’s fricked up. We didn’t need to spend $170B to do this. Go get the drug cartels, for god’s sake.
I was all for the idea of ICE, but they need to fix this shite, get their priorities straight, and respect legal precedent & procedure.
There’s nothing crazy or extreme about this argument, and I’m here to tell you it isn’t just the rabid libs attacking law enforcement who feel this way.

Is she here legally? If not she should be deported. Its fine for ICE to go after the violent and perverts first but anyone here illegally needs to go back.

Interior design for women’s shelters in her home country, while she waits in line to come back.

What part of legal and illegal immigration do you people not understand?
Posted on 7/11/25 at 4:11 pm to DeathByTossDive225
She's going to a public college, likely for free. She's probably going to the ER for healthcare.
What is wrong with Colombia? Can't she be a model student in Colombia?

Simple question, Is she in this country legally?

Good!
Biden's borders allowed God knows how many foreign agents into my backyard to hurt me and mine. If some chick gets detained until she is properly vetted, BIG frickING DEAL.

Just because you originally came here legally doesn't mean you are now here legally. This isn't hard.

I am confident I understand it better than you. Do you know anything at all about the process to obtain permanent or temporary citizenship/visa/legal status? Be honest.
Quit sticking your head in the sand & pretending people aren’t being sent to prisons over technicalities or paperwork. It is a thing that is happening too often, and it’s counterproductive to what most people actually wanted.
