Has anyone gotten sick from drinking tap water in France? I’ve been battling since we landed in Paris and been pounding bread and water. Currently in Etretat (Normandy) and don’t want miss out on all the good eats.

I got sick in Turkey a few years ago. Doctor told me to take antibiotic and to eat lots of peanut butter. It worked.

Never. I never drank bottled or water with gas any time I ever ate in France. Turkey is not France, either.

ETA: Just hit a chemist and get some pepto. There may be a different dissolution of minerals that close to the coast than you're used to at home.

That’s what I’ve been reading, I guess it’s called travelers diarrhea. Went and got some bottled water and guess I’m getting some pepto and peanut butter too.

Thank you to both of you

In Normandy drink the cider and calvados. You will be fine.

Fermented beverages never steer you wrong, that was one of their main functions, to have water that wasn't tainted!

Just swam in the channel hoping to shock my immune system. That shite is cold but nice to not have so much sand in the water, although walking barefoot on those rocks isn’t as nice

Not the Seine? You'd come out of that tolerant to disease like Adeptus Astartes!

Never had any problems with the tap water in France.

If I feel bad from drinking something it is usually from too much wine.

Yes, Calvados kills germs.

Hope you didn't get the Norovirus. Been a scourge of that in Europe this year.

One of our best trips was to Normandy. Stayed in Bayeux. Took a day trip to Mont Saint Michel.

We’re here for a wedding then going to La Havre for a couple days, Giverny so my girlfriend can paint where Monet painted, and then heading over to Lyon and Annecy before coming back home.

I really want to see Mont Saint Michael but I was overruled.

Ever heard of Montezuma’s revenge from drinking the water in Mexico? Same thing but think France.

Right but Montezuma has cause for revenge.

I don’t necessarily disagree with this. But you can also say that the Aztecs got what was coming to them. There were a bunch of reasons they were hated by dozens of tribes.

Not so much arguing that. But Montezuma had visitors come to his land and imprisoned him then destroyed his empire. So he gets revenge when visitors come to his land. That is the point of the saying.

Charlemagne not so much. Nor was he uniquely French. So I was a bit confused if this was a saying that I didn’t quite understand.

I already told the wife that if we go to Europe, we are going to Omaha Beach and Bastogne. No negotiation.
