I think Saddiq Bey is being vastly overlook, this guy is a very solid player and a good fit for the Pels. He is a decent rebounder, solid defender and can make shots. I can see him and Pevey solidifying our 2nd unit.
Starters: 2nd Unit:
Zion. Queen
Poole. Fears
Trey. Bey
Herb. Hawkins or Pevey
Yves. Looney

How dare you bring optimism to this board! You were supposed to only post negative stats of Bey. Don't worry someone will be here shortly to take care of it.
Really happy with that addition to the team.

Dantheman504, you was right, it's depressing when you can't have a civil conversation about one of our players, smh

Hawkins has to earn a spot this year

If we trust Peavy at SF then I can see Bey at SG and Peavy at SF. Hawk will get minutes if hes on the roster to start the season. I think we keep him and see if something clicks year 3. It would be worth the risk as his value can't really get lower. If Fears shows out and Hawk shows up then Jose may be the odd man out. For now tho I'd probably rather Fears/ Jose > Fears/ Hawk.
But I wouldn't be surprised if its Jose/ Hawk/ Bey

neither Jose nor Hawkins will be on the team in my opinion

Depends on whose available and how much they cost.
I think we are $5.5mil from the tax and both of Jose/ Hawk make $4.5mil. So if we target a player for $10mil or less then 1 might stay.
For example we could agree to a S&T with Brogdon on a 3/30 type deal and send Jose out. We would still keep Hawk in that scenario to increase his value and still potentially have a sniper on the team if he finds his shot.
With the pick of Fears, addition of Poole who is PG/ SG, and Murray eventually coming back there is just no reason to keep Jose. Especially > Hawk if we are primarily missing shooters for fit. At that point its just which one of the $5mil you want to move and Hawk still fits the bigger need in reality.

I just don’t think either one of them are needed, and I know neither one are going to be core members of the team. Like you said, put them together and you get a nice player in a S/T. Then start working with Murray and Zion to get their value up for a trade deadline or next offseason deal(s). Lots of smart people here have rightly pointed out that the moves made this offseason (while questionable) indicate a future without Murray and without Zion (70+ MM in salaries BTW)

Agreed but Jose vs Hawk is a different conversation. Hawk was #13 and currently has negative value. If he can come back and even do the 1 thing we expect of him (shoot well) then he would become a viable asset on this team depth chart IMO. Is there any reason that someone like Reeves/ Quinones can't come in and have a similar impact? No. But if Hawk finds his shot he still has more potential.
I don't have a lot of faith in that and wouldn't care considering we do have Reeves/ Quinones type guys but I can see why we would give him another chance to save face of taking him #13 in the hopes it works out.

Yeah, it's still a very open question whether or not Hawkins is actually an NBA player. If he weren't under contract, would we have him on a two-way or would he actually have a regular contract this year at a minimum salary? I don't know the answer to that.

I think a team like the Lakers/ Warriors would take a chance on him. Which is why we probably keep him unless we get someone who can replace his "potential".

I was hoping to get others' opinions and thoughts on Bey, but somehow this thread has turned into a thread about Jordan Hawkings.

I think that it's just hard to know, since he's coming off an ACL injury and an entire missed season.
But if he comes back as good as he was, then he's going to be a key contributor. In my head, he seems like a grizzled vet, but he's actually only 26, with just four seasons in the league.
I think that most of us are thinking of him as the backup SF. He can sub in for Trey, and we can keep up the 3pt volume. So, I've been penciling him in for about 20 minutes a game -- but he's actually never averaged less than 27, and he's started 223 of the 292 games that he's played.
I'm a bit concerned about his defense. From looking at the numbers, it appears that teams really picked on him during ATL's 2023 playoff run, but I didn't bother to break it up series by series to see if he just had some bad matchups.

Bey is a big, 6’7 wing. But the truth is he’s a bit slow footed and not a great overall defender. Decent enough team defender and most definitely strong enough to switch up to the 4’s of the league. I don’t think the ACL tear is going to help his agility.
He’s a guy that likes to go after offensive rebounds and is very very effective at it. Considering Zion and Missi are the same way, we could in theory be a team that wrecks the offensive boards. I’m a bit pessimistic and take issue with guys always more than willing to fight for a score but not nearly as active getting a defensive rebound. But that’s more of a Zion critique than Bey.
He’s started a bunch of games, played a few years in the league, and is in those prime years age wise. For what we expect to be asking from him, I love the pickup. But he does have his faults too.

I agree, but I also don't see how that will be possible... the Peavy kid already looks like a better option than Hawkins.... with as little PT as Hawkins will get this year, he'd have to ball the frick out, every single time he steps on the court to justify his continued existence on our roster...

He has better become a better handler, shooter, or defender or I see a reality where we'll just play small guard (Poole, Alvarado, and Fears) with large wings (Jones, Murphy, Bey, and Peavy) who are all 6'7+

Thanks for the Intel on Bey, I think when it's all said and done, people will realize he was a very good pick up and will help this team a lot.
