If so few people are illegally crossing the border, why the huge increase in ICE spending?

The big bastard included $45 billion for new detention centers and $29.9 billion for enforcement and deportation operations. This represents a 265% increase in the detention budget and a 300% increase in the overall ICE budget. The bill also includes funding to hire 10,000 new ICE agents and boost detention capacity to an average daily population of 100,000.
Why is this necessary if people aren't crossing the border and we're deporting around 700 people every day?

Maybe because 700 a day is a very miniscule number based on the 20million let in by Biden. Think about it .....700......20 million ...use your big boy brain

It costs a LOT of money to send millions of illegals back. If you had thought about it for 30 seconds you would have come to that conclusion.

Trump mentioned in the meeting today that it is likely that much of the border spending will be cut back. I'm sure he wants the wall and barriers built for in case another Biden comes in and removes border patrol also. Also, big part is adding more ICE to speed up deportations.

Biden probably admitted 15 million illegally just on his watch. There are millions more who have been ordered to leave but haven’t done so. There are millions more we haven’t caught up with.

Millions of folks to remove from the country and Trumps wall won't make it impossible to cross but it will make it more difficult. Maybe when can shift some of those 80,000 IRS agents over to the border.

It's not enough. There are tens of millions of illegals here now. We have to deport thousands every single day for the next 3.5 years.
