Is there a big difference between the original Peleton and the Peleton +?
We will both use this machine to try to shed and keep some pounds off.

It will sit in your garage and collect dust. Bought one last year and the wife never touches it.

Talk to me, I know you’re a workout freak, tell me why (besides price) this is bad idea?
We currently have an old treadmill that works when it wants to so looking to relocate it with something else.

She wants one or you want her to have one?

No. You can buy a swivel on Amazon for the reg bike for $30. My wife likes that function when she does the yoga classes.
We actually use the other classes moreso than the bike these days.

We've had one for 3.5 years. There are only two main differences functionally between the regular bike and the plus. And one of those isn't a big deal to most.
The plus model has a swiveling screen, which you can buy a $30 adapter on Amazon for the regular bike, which I did.
The other is auto resistance settings. I don't have the plus, so I can't comment too much on that, but from what I do understand, on Power zone bike classes, the resistance will adjust to your cadence to put you in the right training zone. I've taken those type classes for a few years now, and that group likes to joke that they are the cult inside the cult. It isn't for everyone, but very effective. Less cheering on/motivational talk, and more actual instruction and the reasoning why you're going what you're doing.
Obviously I think the tablet is nicer as well, stuff like nicer screen, better speakers. I've never had an issue with mine, and I don't think the price difference is worth it.

No room in the closet to hang clothes?

lol, we both want to use it.
As we age (both mid 40’s) we find it’s harder to shed weight and keep it off.

We could probably add on to our closet for price of bike! haha

just FYI, someone in my house has used our Peloton almost everyday for the past 4 years
either for yoga, biking, body weight workouts, meditation (to get the kids calmed down), or the biking games (kids)
just a counter for all the "it will be a coat hanger" comments

Go buy some kettlebells and look up some workouts.
Way cheaper
More functional workouts
Takes up less space

same, wife uses the bike or does yoga daily.
I do the strength or HIIT classes 3/4 days a week between runs.
Used the bike a lot of a year or so but started to run for cardio more

Id argue that walking is a much better way to lose weight and its an activity you can do alone or together(or with dog).
All that said, the best workout is the one that is consistently done. Whatever can encourage that is the best

Burn more calories on the bike in 30 minutes than you would walking 30 minutes
There is no reason you can't do both

That’d be an absolutely retarded argument

Best way to lose weight is diet. Exercise can add to that, but you can't keep eating what got you overweight and just add in some cardio and weights and expect the pounds to fall off.

Im certainly not arguing that at all, you are right. I just think walking is a more sustainable habit and it wont increase your appetite
