Tariffs will go back to April levels unless deals are done by Aug 1st.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Sunday that tariffs announced back in April will take effect on Aug. 1 for countries that have not reached an agreement with President Donald Trump’s administration.
“President Trump’s going to be sending letters to some of our trading partners saying that if you don’t move things along, then on August 1, you will boomerang back to your April 2 tariff level,” Bessent said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
On Aug. 1, countries will “get a letter saying that if we have not reached an agreement, then you will go back to the April 2 level,” he said.
Bessent rejected the idea that Aug. 1 is yet another new tariff deadline, but the August date could still give trading partners more time to renegotiate tariff rates.
“We are saying this is when it’s happening, if you want to speed things up, have at it, if you want to go back to the old rate that’s your choice,” Bessent said.
In April, Trump announced a 90-day pause on the steep tariffs he had unveiled just days prior on most major trading partners. That 90-day pause is due to expire on Wednesday, sparking concern among investors and U.S. trading partners.
The White House did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment on Bessent’s remarks.

As expected they continue to kick the can down the road. At this point I think everyone shrugs this off, as no one expects them to ever return to the reciprocal rates.
At least they went ahead and said before the "July 9th" deadline, which is I can't even keep up with all the moving goalposts

This is all just going to end up as 10 and 20% rates everywhere
Which is essentially just a sales tax

I agree 100%, we can only hope they use the money to pay bills due instead of increasing spending... oh wait

I don’t think 10-20 % tariffs are enough to cause a recession
But we shall see

I like my tariffs with cilantro, onion, and pineapple.

Don’t think tariffs will move markets like before.
Not stressed.

Saw this on X and thought the #TACO tweets were just trolls.

I think to get a big negative market move it would have to be a number like that 100%+ stuff originally place on China and the Chinese retaliated with the same. Something that just halts trade and just don't see that.

It's crazy. I've never seen so much flip flopping

I agree.
With Trump I’ve come to realize I shouldn’t focus on what he says but what actually happens.
Media outlets represent everything that occurs on a daily basis as the end of the world.
I fancy myself as an independent but TDS is pervasive in the media.

Fwiw,
Futures are pretty muted
Dow only down 129 points. Less than 0.4%

so tired of hearing market reacting because they have no tariff clarity. its pretty fricking simple countries either make a deal or they are going to get high tariffs its pretty clear if your arent stupid. and either way it wont affect much because with or without tariffs you just got lower taxes...
