How Hard is it to maintain a pond?

Been looking around properties and the wife wants one with a pond. How difficult is it to maintain/keep up. It’s about half acre if I had to guess

Depends on your goal with it. At minimum it's extra yard work. Have to weed eat around the edge, maintain things, etc.
If you want to maintain a fishery, there's even more than goes into it.
I don't do crap with my water or fish, cleaning up the yard around it sucks.

It is a pretty good bit of work..and if you want to manage the fishery, it can be pretty expensive. I think I would enjoy it. The trouble is, there is no exit strategy if you don’t want the pond anymore. A single year of neglect can become one hell of a mess.
You might also post on the outdoor board, as there are several folks that have ponds on that board.

We have a 1/3 acre pond that came with our house and I wish it didn't.
Weed eating around it sucks. It got silted in over the years and had to have it dug out, that was expensive and a pain. All kinds of weeds and algae and cow lilies like to grow in it, and they are a pain to deal with, and if you don't do it quickly they will get out of hand. Pond herbicides are expensive.
The only thing I really enjoy about it is that I stocked it and I like growing/feeding/watching/fishing for the fish.

Mine is surrounded by woods and only keep trees from growing on the levee. No issues at all for me.

Its not hard at all. I have 1 acre pond stocked with bass and bluegill along w/ an aerator/fountain. I push mow around it when its low which is super easy. Now weed eating does take a little longer but isn't bad because I love doing yard work. I have also used pond dye and muck reducer a few times to keep the water somewhat clear which isn't that expensive. My son feeds and has been a fishing catching machine this summer.

Cutrine plus every spring and some grass carp if needed and that’s it. Plus some aeration that a sends up bubbles from deep spots so you don’t get “turnover”. My pond 1.25 acres with deepest area 8 feet and 4-5 feet elsewhere.

I understand the privacy concern but there are a lot of variables that an areial shot from Google maps could answer. If it's wooded (except for the dam!!) it's much less maintenance.
Also, you don't have to weedeat around the edges unless you want it manicured looking, you can just hit the edges with Roundup a couple times a year. The Roundup does zero harm to the pond.
If there's trees growing on the dam, immediately discard this property from your wish list.
