What are the most overrated and underrated cities in the US?

Overrated: San Francisco- The weather is dreary, downtown has a ton of vacancies, the obvious drug use in the open and homelessness are off putting. There are definitely some good things but nowhere near a top US city.
Underrated: Pittsburgh- Great food scene, downtown and north northsore areas have a ton of dining/bar/things to do. Steelers, Pirates and Penguins all plan close to the bars and shops.
Newport, RI- One of the best kept secrets, thankfully not attracting many people from the south. Awesome history, great summer weather, beautiful coastline, great food and a very walkable city. All of New England is unbelievable this time of year, but Newport is the gem.

Pittsburg is arse. Ugly women, too hilly, food isn’t great. The baseball stadium is really cool though

Landing in Pittsburgh makes me want to take a dump.
I feel like I’m going to leave looking like a coal miner.

I will say Primanti Bros was very disappointing, and there was nobody in there. However, the seafood in the city is great.

Underrated: Natchitoches LA
Granted I’ve only been for Christmas lights but bayou is beautiful, cool old French iron architecture and decent food/bar scene

Overrated: Dallas and Denver
Underrated: Richmond, Cincinnati
Properly rated (but teetering close to overrated): Austin and Nashville — still plenty of great food, entertainment and outdoor attractions to keep them enjoyable. The congestion and traffic, however, make them more difficult to enjoy.

Milwaukee is underrated. I was there once during the winter and still had a good time.

Denver is a great one for overrated. Shitty city in an otherwise great state.

Yeah, just reading this board, you'd never guess SF, NYC, LA and New Orleans are 4 of the more enjoyed tourist cities in the world.
I agree about some cities like Pittsburgh (and Milwaukee) being a lot cooler than many think.
In some ways the lack of economic boom over the years actually works to their favor. So many cool old 1940s-60s buildings, restaurants, shops that would have been torn down/renovated elsewhere.

Just because there are 2 million Asian tourist there doesn’t make it a great or desirable destination. NYC is a world class city, but the other 3 kind of suck. I’ve lived in both LA and NO and even once finding the “local stuff” both cities still have way too many shortfalls to be great. LA has areas that you never have to leave that are pretty awesome, though.

San Francisco is great. So long as you avoid the Tenderloin (and some other small parts of downtown) it's as safe as anywhere.
Try staying in an air bnb in any of the local neighborhoods and you get an amazing experience (Corona Heights, Mission, Hayes Valley, Castro(if you're into that kind of thing), Cole Valley, Haight Ashbury, Nopa)
Tons of parks (Buena Vista Park, Corona Heights Park, Alamo Square Park (Painted Ladies), Panhandle Park in Nopa - takes you to Golden Gate Park).
Couple hours drive to Sonoma and Napa
Sausalito is right across the Golden Gate Bridge ans is an awesome little town.
So many other cool things to do and see in the city.

Yeah. And another thing: it has the best weather in the country and in contention for best in the world. Know those perfect cool fall/spring days in south Louisiana that puts everyone in a good mood?
That’s every day there. Makes up for a lot of problems.

Nashville is way overrated. Lived there for over 10 years, three interstate meet downtown, the roads will give you flat tires, and unless you want to be a country music star there isn't much to do.

Overrated: Denver - crime, terrible roads, traffic, everything smells like weed, and illegals everywhere.
Underrated: Omaha - Not popular enough to attract white liberals from Chicago and the rest of the state keeps the ones that have moved in check politically. Decent infrastructure, lower crime than normal, weather isn't as bad as the rest of the plains.
