Me and the Mrs are going to San Francisco for 5 days in about 3 weeks. Need to know some good restaurants to eat in that aren’t too touristy and some things I might have overlooked (other than the must sees/bucket list stuff) that are very underrated while I’m there?
North Beach Area?
Haight?
Castro?
Fisherman’s Wharf?
I’m gonna avoid Tenderloin as I’ve heard it’s a shite hole and dangerous and nothing to see there.
Maybe a local or a frequent visitor can help me out? I live in Tuscaloosa and would never tell a visitor to eat at Dreamland BBQ while they are here. There are much better options
Please advise

Fisherman's Wharf is very touristy and the epicenter of homeless people. You're gonna see homeless in all areas of the city but FW is the worst. Go to the Mission district and eat at Nopolito. Sausalito is a good day trip, you can take the ferry over which is fun and you can ride bikes across the GG bridge with a guided group. Eat at Copita, have a drink at the bar at Spinnaker which is old school mid century greatness. Bar Bocce has good pizza , Sushi Ran is good and Fish is a casual fish fry place that is good. We had friends that lived in Sausalito so Ive spent a lot of time there. The coolest little town ever is Fairfax which is 20 minutes north of Sausalito. I have an LSU classmate that lives there and he says it is Mayberry on acid. Great walkable downtown area.

There is quite a decent number of great cocktail bars around there. I'm in San Francisco every couple weeks for work and always find myself at PCH, Bourbon & Branch, Stooke's, and (more recently) Bar Maritime. Also, Cityscape on the roof of the Hilton in Union Square has incredible views. Worth a quick drink.
Yes, generally, the area sucks but you aren't Mad Max out there

We love Nick's Rockaway in Pacifica. It's an old dive right on the ocean with a fantastic crab sandwich. The drive there has magnificent views of the Pacific Ocean. Sam's Chowder House in Half Moon Bay is another one of our favorites, about 9 miles south of Nick's on Hwy 1 (PCH). The Beach Chalet Brewery located at the West end of Golden Gate park has a bar and restaurant on the second story of a building, providing views of the ocean. We stopped there on a Sunday afternoon and a jazz ensemble was playing. There's a seafood place called New England Lobster Market very close to SFO, it is fresh and delicious. I can't speak much to the heart of downtown SF as we typically don't venture there. I will say that walking across the Golden Gate bridge was one of the coolest things I've done though, I do recommend you see it. If you are a beer drinker, try an 805 while you are in California. It's brewed in Paso Robles - I have acquired quite the taste of it since moving out here. Anchor Steam went belly up a few years ago so I had to find something else ~

I enjoyed the botanical gardens.

It’s touristy but just jumping on one of the “hop on hop off” buses is a great fast way to check out the city.

I’ve lived here in SF for 9 years now.
Assuming you get a nice weather day you can walk the bridge one day and drive up to Mill Valley if you have a car. Hook Fish & Junction/Pizza Hacker are great and a spot I usually take friends/family visiting.
North Beach has Tony’s Pizza which is fantastic & a big tourist staple. If the wait is far too long there’s plenty of great Italian restaurants around. There’s a sister restaurant in the Haight named Slicehouse which has the majority of their pizzas.
Favorite easy-ish restaurant to get a reservation in the city is Che Fico on Divisadero. There’s also a Loving Cup right near by which has terrific ice cream I’ve still never figured out how they do.
Fable in the Castro is great for Brunch.
My favorite parts of the city are Golden Gate Park/Ocean Beach/Presidio. Definitely worth a day. Favorite view of the city is off on Ocean Beach up by the old Cliff House. The Beach Chalet someone else mentioned is right there as well. Their beers are surprisingly decent. Restaurants around there I’d recommend
Lou’s - lunch spot for sandwiches.
The Laundromat - Detroit Style pizzas, does bagels in the am
Burma Superstar/B star - two Burmese sister restaurants that are a few streets away from each other. Another one I often take guests too. There’s also Burma love that’s downtown that serves cocktails. The other ones don’t have their liquor license so they just do soju cocktails
Colibri - Mexican in the Presidio
Hook Fish - great fish spot. There’s one in Mill Valley & one right near Ocean Beach

I just got back from a wedding in Tiburon, I'd highly recommend taking the ferry over there or to Sausalito. A popular activity is to rent bikes in the city and bike out to Tiburon or Sausalito across the Golden Gate bridge and then ferry back. I think that'd be an awesome day.

We are doing a tour that goes to vista point then to Muir Woods and then to Sausalito. Instead of taking the van back we are gonna hang around in Sausalito and then take the ferry back over. That’s in the plan for our last day. First day we are doing night tour to Alcatraz
Going to a couple of Giants vs Mets games while we are there, going to Fort Point, Haight, the Castro and to Twin Peaks and Mount Davidson. Gonna eat breakfast and dinner a lot in north beach and stroll around Chinatown. I’m not too keen on hanging around fisherman wharf but the Mrs wants to go there so oh well. She wants to go see the painted ladies houses since she was a big fan of full house as a kid too

Alcatraz tour kicks arse. Very worth it.
Cannot believe no one has said Swan Oyster Depot in Nob Hill. Place is absolutely badass and a must if in that area for Oysters and fresh, American/Bay Area style sushi.
For perspective, we were there two times last year, the second in November for a wedding and we were probably the beneficiary of the Xi Chyna clean up from his visit but it was night and day compared to the previous visit in March.
Fisherman's Warf isn't that bad, it's worth checking out up and down the Embarcadero. You'll be there anyway for Alcatraz tour so go early before you get on the boat and its daylight.
Obviously ride a trolley at some point.
Don't care what anyone says, that city is truly the Pearl of the US. Incredible city and scenery. Hope they keep working towards cleaning it up. Presidio and Golden Gate State Park are American treasures.

My favorite restaurant in San Francisco has to be Lolinda. It's a fantastic Argentinian steakhouse.

Lolinda rules. Can also do The Beehive for a drink and catch some incredible skyline views at Mission Dolores.

Does anyone know of any good restaurants in the Russian Hill area? I will be staying in an AirBnB in that area for the Dead & Co concerts later this month.

This is good info
I'm going to SF and Napa in late September and trying to decide how to divide my time best
Flying into OAK Saturday around 1pm, staying by Embarcadero
Plan is to leave Sunday to check into Napa hotel, so I'm really only looking at 24 hours in SF and need to figure out what to do
I'd like a nice dinner hopefully near Embarcadero and to see a few good things
Was thinking Alcatraz tour and check out Painted Ladies and either Golden Gate Park/Presidio
Will probably skip Muir Woods on the way to Napa as there just won't be enough time

State Bird - great dining experience. (Tough to get a reservation so make one ASAP if available)
We did cocktails at the Top of the Mark for sunset. Was great view of the Golden Gate bridge.
I would venture over to Sausalito. We did this and enjoyed walking around and taking in all of the sights etc. Nice relaxing area.
