How did they get the money before the government got involved?

The whole program is a mess. This is the least of it.

Private loans. Don’t qualify? Better start working your arse off to pay for it.

Now I know you’re a troll that can’t decide what internet persona fits best. How much in federal loans did your MD wife take?

If enough people were paying them back, this wouldn’t be necessary.

Grad plus loans are unlimited right now. I agree 150 is too low…but you can literally borrow as much as you want right now. Get multiple doctorates. Just keep going to school.

Medschool wasn’t 400k when you were school age

It also should be sending the message that schools raising tuition simply because subsidized government loans are available is a bad thing to allow to happen.
The school gets all the free government money.
The person who was overcharged for college has to pay it back. Or the government is left holding the bag. Only one profiting are the universities because there is an endless supply of cash through government loans and there are no consequences for the borrowers until they finish school or quit/fail out and realize what they have done.

0 she was rich and her dad paid for it. Her friends on the other hand did not.
Also can we say giving 300k plus in private loans is just a worse solution?

Or, maybe, med schools will be forced to limit their tuition and fee increases to something that even resembles inflation and actual cost of living increases. For years, they’ve raised the cost of attending med school well beyond anything remotely reasonable. As a result, these med schools (and other professional schools) have more fricking administrators and deans than they could ever need. this is directly the result of virtually unlimited student loans that are available.

This is an inflation problem not an academic problem. This is saying houses cost too much so you have to put 70% down

The reason it’s so expensive is because it is easier to borrow 300k for school than it is to borrow 20K for a car, which is a hard asset. Zero accountability for the school.

He’s also a poor. Poor guy can’t afford anything.

So if you were underwriting a 21 year old for 300k in medschool debt as private lender, how would you do it?
This is an insane logic and would harm America

Cool. I look forward to reading your next daily rumination about how unaffordable groceries are through a different lens.

Where’s this level of outrage for any corporate profits? Don’t schools provide jobs?
