I don’t remember anyone having inside dogs when I was a kid. Nowadays it seems like most people have an inside dog if they have a dog.

If you're cold, they're cold...
... and hot, hungry, bored, lonely...
but yeah, I believe growing up most dogs around us were equal timers or more outside than not.

Ancient Egyptians of all social statuses, including the royal family, kept dogs as family pets. Whenever a dog died, the family would mummify their pet and bury it in family tombs, so they could meet again in the afterlife.

I think it’s more of a per family thing. My Mom and step dad never had inside dogs but my Dad and stepmom did.
I’ve had two mini horses(Danes) living in my house for close to 20 years now.

I grew up with an inside dog. A labrador, but she was limited to one part of the house.

We had several. 90% of the dogs owned by friends and family were inside as well, as they are today.

I just don’t understand people that live in suburban areas that get a dog and leave it in a small backyard all day.
Rural areas with acerage yeah man they would love that…
But tiny backyard? Isolated? Minimal interaction? In the south? Get the frick out of here.

We had an outside dog. I was just a kid, but I would try to "accidently" let it in.. And she would do her business in the house.. My daddy would then rub her noise in it and give her a few slaps on her back leg.. and put her back out..
People would be horrified by that today. One time, I think the weather was really bad or something and we let the dog in over night. I wanted the dog to sleep in the bed. Me and my brother used to share a queen size bed. My brother told me "if that dog pisses in the bed I am going to make you sleep in it".
Middle of the night he wakes up.. The dog pissed in the bed. He picked me up and put me right in it.. I didn't want to tell my parents because I knew they would be mad and my brother watched me because I kept moving out if it, but I ended up falling asleep in it. My mom was pissed and my dad was like "he told you if it pissed in the bed you would have to sleep in it"..
While there were people who had inside dogs, it was a lot more common for people to have "outside" dogs.

Hell No - My parents would never let a dog in the house.
Also, we lived in a neighborhood where all dogs just kind of hung out, so they didn't live long.
Especially the ones that chased cars

Odd. Agree. I can’t remember anyone with inside dogs, 70s-late 80s.
And if so it couldn’t have been many at all.
