Derek Curiel is good at baseball.

That is chosen before the post season. It’s not like that pitcher at UT didn’t deserve it at the time.

Maybe UT needed a better team

A relief pitcher has no business winning Player of the Year in anything.
Is he good? For sure. But he threw more than 3 innings only twice in SEC play and never more than 4.
Sorry, but no.

We are going to move him to center field next year, and I fully expect him to immediately be one of the best defensive center fielders in college baseball.

This, he threw 31 innings in the SEC; while thats not insignificant, its certainly a far cry from most starters. It would be like a batter only starting 2/3 SEC games a weekend and getting benched halfway through 1 of them just about.

I heard he was listening to Kanye when they gave him the award.

So then I guess you have a problem with Matty Ott getting it in 2009?

So should we take Matty Ott’s FOY award away from him? Or was that different?

I think the point being made is they need separate awards for something like that. It really doesn't make sense to hand these awards to pitchers over a player who plays 9 innings every game. If they wanted a separate award for that pitcher, sure, he was impressive.

The UT pitcher was extremely impactful to their season. Probably more impactful than DC was to LSU at the time. It’s okay to admit that. He had a hell of a season and an even better post season. He deserves this award. But so did the UT closer.
