I have about 25k sqft of bermuda yard and have already gone through a bottle of Celsius Xtra and just put my second application of MSM Turf yesterday evening. This stuff is growing this year like I have never seen.

Surprisingly, no. I think my centipede is much healthier this year, due to the amount of rain we're getting, which might be crowding it out. Usually I don't start fighting VBW until late July and August, so time will tell

MSM Turf
I find this works A LOT better on VBW than Celsius.

not as bad as a few summers ago when my berumda wasn't as strong but still there. Stuff is a pain in the arse when it is as rainy as it has been
take it over dry as bone

when was your first application? 1 application is usually enough to smoke VBW but MSM turf is a slow burner, takes a good 4 weeks

A few weeks ago. It yellowed, but still growing so hoping this will knock it out.

Since it's such a large area, you may not be able to give the grass what it needs to keep weeds at bay. Just a guess.

yeah I have it in my st aug pretty bad. The zoysia/bermuda areas of my lawn do a pretty good job of keeping it suppressed. When I use MSM or Celsius the VBW recovers faster than the St Aug.

Sprayed PGR so mowing every 7ish days now. I give 2lbs N per 1kft two times each summer.
But yes, its a big yard and have small kids so time I can spend is very limited. Also no sprinkler system so rely on rainfall to water

I have some of this for the first time ever this year.

I actually have been able to manage VBW better than ever this year, I think, with some well timed and more frequent MSM doses. Doveweed is worse than ever, though, and I’m finding that Celsius seems to ding my Bermuda as bad as the target.

emerald zoysia. I hit the VB with some Remedy (Triclopyr) a few weeks ago. It yellowed it but will all the rain, I haven't been able to treat again and it's still living.

I feel like this is the case with any tough weeds and often gets overlooked.
The most effective thing I've found to keep things at bay is walking the yard consistently and staying on top of the weeds whenever you see them.

In the St Aug area of my front yard where I sprayed Recognition I have absolutely no VBW. And there was definitely some there before. Recognition doesn't specifically say that it controls VBW on the label. But I looked up the active ingredient trifloxysulfuron and I got several hits.
quote:
Trifloxysulfuron is the most effective sulfonylurea for Virginia buttonweed and may be safely applied to bermudagrass and zoysiagrass. Trifloxysulfuron treatments may provide good control (80 to 89%) of Virginia buttonweed and repeat applications have potential to provide complete control.

I know that shite isn't cheap, but my St Aug is looking beautiful.
ETA: I looked again and must have missed it the first time. It is on the label, but it specifically says "Virginia buttonweed (seedlings)"

I'll pick some up if I decide to give up on a bermuda front yard. The St Aug is currently choking out celebration bermuda, even though I was cutting at 1.5".

I also used recognition to hit some VBW and Kylinga. Almost no effect on the st Aug. fantastic stuff

I Do it every day, I got killinga popping up,here and there, just cut yesterday, gonna give a day of growth and hit it with certainty
Posted on 7/4/25 at 10:44 am to ole man
Certainty will knock that out with ease. Use surfactant too.

Just as an after thought i bought a generic certainty called SERTAY not as expensive same active ingredient,I wished i woulda bought my first choice of dismiss south, this stuff is a sedge and killinga Killer in 24 hrs, sertay works but it's just a little slower
