Ilia Topuria's UFC record is insane

9-0
7 finishes
1 takedown scored on him his entire UFC career.
KO'd 3 straight former champions and lock HOFers.
Domination of every style. Bangers, submission artists, grapplers, all around fighters, etc.
3-4 more wins and he's probably a top 3 UFC fighter in the modern era, if not the best.
And he's only 28.

Islam isn’t scared. He was in a weird position where he beat up everyone in the division and just beat up a 145er twice. He wanted to move up to challenge himself just like Topuria did. Let’s see how it plays out.

Topuria was his toughest potential opponent in years and he ran. He’ll never fight Topuria. Islam has made a killing beating up on over the hill or one dimensional fighters.

Islam is scared

Islam moved up to 170 before any of this happened. He also stated years ago that he wanted 2 belts. Ilia has a nice performance KO a declining Olivera. But the fact that everyone is racing to be the first and loudest to proclaim Ilia is the unbeatable, man of steel GOAT is the nauseating. Did people forget Jai Herbert drop Ilia on his arse with a neck kick?
Ilia has better boxing and power vs Islam. But Islam is strong on the ground, has better clinch work and kicks. It’d be a close fight and wouldn’t be surprised if Vegas might make Makhachev the favorite.

Islam would likely be the favorite at 170 simply because of the size difference.

Just went back and watched that Jai fight. That was a wild kick by Jai that caught him. The recovery was equally impressive but Jai really gave him fits.

That’s not how it happened. The results at UFC 315 directly decided what he was going to do.
If Belal won, Islam was fighting Topuria at LW. If Belal lost, Islam was moving up to fight for the WW title & Topuria would fight Oliviera

He’s a better version of McGregor. Interesting to see if he fights in Spain next

They have 2 common opponents and Islam beat the younger versions of both. In fact ilia beat Olivera at 35 Holloway at 32, Volk 35, emmet was 38. These are not spring chickens.

Jai was really mixing it up in R1. People only remember that kick but they forget Jai also landed a knee to ilia face that send his mouth piece flying.

I went from thinking Charles would win to thinking Ilia absolutely will beat Islam. He advanced positions with Charles on the ground (with ease) and knocked him unconscious in less than half of 1 round. Charles hasnt been knocked out in 8 years. Ilia is insane.

There has been smoke about Islam moving up for quite a while. It’s not something that just popped up
Also Islam is a -225 fav over him also

Paddy would smoke topuria and Islam

Bryce Mitchell might have had the most success against him. God what a blemish on his record that would be if he had lost to Bryce. Nothing against Bryce, but it might remove Topuria from any GOAT conversations by default.
Who else? Arman?
I'm sure he wants to fight Islam, but it's up in the air as to whether that fight ever happens. Maybe if Islam beats JDM, Topuria would demand to fight Islam to go for triple champ. Although seems like size actually would make a difference at that weight, and not just against Islam, but you never know.
Who else would be out there that would add to Topuria's resume? Or what else would he have left to prove?
I think he'd retire at 20-0 if he's able to do it, which would be 3 more fights. He's on record that he wants to retire young, 30, 32.
quote:I wonder how many more fights he'll do. In the post-fight press conference, they asked Topuria if he wants to fight Paddy next, and he said yes. So it seems like that fight will happen at some point, if not next. If they did that in Spain, that would make a ton of money for the UFC. England not too-too far away, lot of Paddy fans would make the trip.
3-4 more wins

You bring up topuria getting knocked down , he came back and knocked dude out. Islam was TKO'D by Adriano martins , Islam is clearly ducking topuria , his trainer said he needed to beat Charles first before he would give him his shot knowing Islam was moving up

One thing I’ve learned in fighting is A + B doesn’t always = C
Example:
Joe Frazier beats Muhammad Ali
Ken Norton beats Muhammad Ali
George Foreman obliterates both Frazier and Norton
So George Foreman beats Muhammad Ali right?
We all know what happened there.

Foreman was poisoned and forced to stay/fight in a foreign country ruled by a dictator?
