I've never been and wanted to give it a try. I don't need a 5 star resort but don't want a dump somewhere in the middle, TIA

Palladium wasn’t terrible

I stayed at Golden Parnassus and loved it. It is a smaller property, but the service was friendly and liked the food. My room had a balcony overlooking the ocean, and it wasn't an expensive upgraded option. I think it is adults-only though, in case you are looking for something kid friendly.

Hard Rock - very budget friendly
Hyatt Ziva - excellent but not as budget friendly.

Breathless Riveria is a no for me.
Middle of nowhere and overpriced for the tiny drinks, lousy service, and shitty beach.

Sandro's it was dirt cheap. Decent food. Nice pool area. Good beach. Not much walkable in area. But can cab around.

I said Sandros. It was called Sandos. It was $240 a night. All inclusive. The drinks were trash but food good. Pretty location. I went there the day after my split and partied. Though I foubd Usla Mujeres and prefer going there without all inclysive and just eat local food.

An earlier poster said Excellence, Excellence (and Finest) are really nice, but hardly budget friendly in Cancun.
If you're a Costco member look at Costco Travel, they usually have a few really good deals for Cancun and you can sort by cost vs. value/amenities.

Live Aqua is somewhat budget friendly if you’re a Costco member. Great location in the heart of the hotel zone with lots of shopping, nightlife and restaurants within an easy walk. The food was the best I’ve experienced at an all inclusive
