Apparently, there was more to his plane crash than orginally thought. (For those of you that don’t know he is probably the most famous US Soldier in WW2 and winner of the Medal of Honor. If this is true this is beyond pathetic.

He was a little skinny poor Texas Boy that killed or captured an entire NAZI regiment and stopped an advance single handedly. The story is so incredible it seems fiction, He later became a movie star and there is a great movie where he plays himself. A true American Hero.

Apparently he stumbled across something the industrial military complex didn’t want him to know and became a liability

Audie Murphy was murdered

A company of German soldiers, not a regiment. Good Lord, man. Get something right.

Chuck Norris crosses to the other side of the street if he sees Audie Murphy.

And he does it quickly...

100 soldiers vs 1 guy is still a hell of a story.

had a cousin do something similar in France during WWII, he was about as backwoods of an Arkansan as you could be, France awarded him their equivalent of the MoH, I've tried to research this but can't find out much, my mother had an old newspaper clipping but that's gone

Legion of honor recipients I am fairly certain have records in France available for research.

I'd start Here, but it's in French and you may have to play around with it a bit. Also googling it, it seems this is a common research topic so I am sure there's other research avenues too.

Reach out to the World War Two Museum in New Orleans

The French usually did a very good job of honoring people who had liberated them if you know the town where it took place that would also be a place to start

As opposed to the national French government getting a hold of someone at the local level they might be able to put in time to answering your questions

thanks to both of you guys, I didn’t find out about this until a few years ago and there’s no family left to help, he was an incredibly simple, humble man

maybe he realized he was nothing but a pawn in their lust for money and that there are no good guys.

He was no Alvin York.

General Lindsey: "Well York, I've heard you captured the whole damned German army."
York: "No sir. I only got 132."
