The New Orleans Wizards - Troy Weaver and the DMV obsession

It was discussed a bunch on here last night, and Jake Madison spent a lot of his time on his show this morning on it, but apparently literally every Exec in the league knew we were going to take Queen and Peavy.
Why?
Troy Weaver who is from the DMV area, is obsessed with taking players with connection to that area. He has commented on it saying "I just feel comfortable with guys from that area"
When he was with Detroit, he did it so much that it became a huge running joke.
Now with us, 5 out of the 6 players we have acquired have a connection to the area.
Poole and Bey: Playing for the Washington Wizards, Weaver was a senior advisor last year. In addition, Bey played HS Ball in Maryland/DC
Jeremiah Fears - Not aware of a DMV connection
Queen - Maryland
Peavy - Georgetown (twitter was hilarious when he made that move about it)
Dickinson - Maryland HS guy
What he did in Detroit in this manner was a meme...and now 5 out of 6 players here are the same. This is so strange

It’s incredibly strange
They must have REALLY LOVED fears to pick him first with no dmv connection

I definitely feel like casting that small of a net is bizarre.
Its much worse than the Saints obsession with Ohio State

Knowing this, I am looking at the Free Agent lists for Sign and Trade targets (virtually every transaction this offseason for all teams will be S&Ts)
Santi Aldama - Loyola Maryland
NAW - Va Tech
Malcolm Brogdon - UVA

It has its advantages. DMV has proven to produce good basketball players. It's nice to have a guy who can use his connections to the area to get guys to want to come here.

That's great, but maybe cast a bit of a wider net

Super-interesting point.
I wonder if there have been any strong prospects from DC that Weaver passed on. I don't know enough about high school and college basketball to be familiar about DC area prospects. Cause if he's just drafting the highest rated guys from DC, that's kinda stupid.

Great, we have a guy with roster influence who is too lazy to scout players on a national level.

That's an ignorant statement. He's drafted and signed plenty of guys who aren't in that area.

Definitely won't be trading Trey if things go south. He played at Virginia.
It's fricking stupid.

As long as you are not calling them “New Orleans Generals’

Does he have anything left in the tank? Would he be available for the MLE?

Personally a big fan of drafting guys based off location, not talent.

Someone please wake me up from this nightmare.

Aldama would be a great fit. Hawkins is safe-- he's from Maryland, lol. Also, Jalen Smith on the Bulls is from Maryland and went to that university. Another good trade target.
If we can add another good big: Kornet, Boucher, Aldama, Jalen Smith, Goga Bitadze, Lopez. That would be good.
