If you’re bad enough to where the pick matters, then you sucked. You are blowing it up at that point and are trading Zion, Murphy, Herb, etc and will likely acquire multiple firsts for them.

Murray will be recovered and have a year left plus a player option. Poole will be a large expiring and will likely put up numbers on a shite team. Bey is on good deal expiring.

You’ll have a lot of ways to acquire assets/picks.

Now, you’re unbelievably bad so after missing out on whatever that pick is, you’re going to be in the lotto for multiple years and have a bunch of picks from other teams, plus two guys you truly believe are foundational.

That’s all I got.

That trade is Boston fleecing Brooklyn level bad, and Brooklyn has the advantage of being in a market players want to go to and they still haven’t recovered.

bunch, the thing is, this wouldn't and shouldn't be a shock to anyone if this were to happen. Even more reason to keep the pick, or use it to leverage a better deal.

please delete this, don't be one of these pelitards

Buddy I’ve been leveling this trade for 12 hours.

This is just a devils advocate thread.

Just putting the lawyer hat on.

I do understand this reasoning. I obviously disagree.

Oh no... we lost our first round pick next year... whatever will we do?!

Look how great all of these picks have been for us in the past!

2023 – Jordan Hawkins (14th overall, UConn)

2022 – Dyson Daniels (8th overall, G League Ignite)

2021 – Ziaire Williams (10th overall, Stanford) drafted by Pelicans, traded to Memphis

2020 – Kira Lewis Jr. (13th overall, Alabama)

2019 – Zion Williamson (1st overall, Duke)

2016 – Buddy Hield (6th overall, Oklahoma)

2013 – Nerlens Noel (6th overall, Kentucky) drafted by Pelicans, traded to Philadelphia

2012 – Anthony Davis (1st overall, Kentucky)

2012 – Austin Rivers (10th overall, Duke)

We are actually a pretty good drafting team.

That's how we had so much talent. We just didn't have the coach and injury luck for it to work

When a team trades its pick for next year fully unprotected, usually it's done to materially upgrade the roster for the upcoming season so that pick gets devalued.

The Pelicans traded it for a late lottery rookie who, even in the best case scenario, is only minimally impacting their 2025-26 record

You're not wrong about this. The Pels were basically intentionally tanking last year though. The roster on day 1 is a huge upgrade over the end of last season just by having our regular players on the court again.

Our last game of the year last season, these are the players we put on the court:

Starters
Jeremiah Robinson-Earl
Keion Brooks Jr.
Jose Alvarado
Elfrid Payton
Antonio Reeves
Bench
Jamal Cain
Kylor Kelley
Lester Quinones
