Derik Queen at 7?

In their latest mock draft, ESPN's Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo predicted that the Pelicans would use the No. 7 pick to select Duke center Khaman Maluach. However, Givony reported that there have also been "persistent rumblings around" Maryland center Derik Queen over the last 24 hours.
Givony stated that the teams that feel New Orleans is eyeing Queen pointed to "long-standing connections between senior vice president of basketball operations Troy Weaver to Baltimore and Washington, D.C. prospects historically, as well as the fact that his son, Thomas, was a Graduate Assistant on Maryland's coaching staff this past season." Weaver was also a member of the Washington Wizards' front office this past season, "giving him a front-row seat to witness the impressive skill level and overall talent of Queen at Maryland all season."

I think this would be a correlation to the #23 trade up rumors more than taking him at #7.

If we take queen at 7 I’ll lose it. Trade back for him.

Please let's rule out drafting the guy because of connections and just go off talent.

I kind of like that mocks have us taking several different guys. We seem to be unpredictable right now. Are we trading for Bailey? Taking Fears? Maluach? Now Queen? Or Tre Johnson if he's there?
Pretty good poker face by Weaver and Dumars right now.

Why? It worked out great for us the last time when we took Austin Rivers….

I think I'd rather Queen at 7 than Ace Bailey. We need size at C.

That’s a pretty brutal take lol

then take that center from Duke, Queen is undersized for a center

Queen can play center in the NBA. Duke's center is tall, but doesn't have size. He reminds me of Monute Boll (spelling?).
Edited to Add: Queen is 6'-10" and 248 pounds. That's a good sized center in the NBA.

Malauch weighs 253, taller, longer, quicker, and 2 years younger
Queen is much more versatile offensively but the defense is not good

No outside shot either, don’t see how he and Zion can play together

Disappointing but I’m sure he will be the pick at 7. We’re the pelicans!

He made 7 3s for the year. Taking 35 total. Funny thing is he made 5 of those during tournament play and went 5 of 11 overall.
His percentage may be somewhat misleading. I think he has more potential as a deep threat ala Naz Reid than some of the other bigs who have a higher percentage.

2 projects: one is a BALL PLAYER, the other has a longdong- why does does it always seem like we'd prefer the londonger around here every time!? I hate a project tbh unless they happen to be one of the best BALLERS remaining. Queen is a certified baller. idk what yall are watching except other's mock drafts. Queen, Jaku, Essengue, Boyles, Demin, Sorber, Yang, Wolf, Newell, Clayton, Richardson, Kalkbrenner, Fleming, Raynaud, Penda, Pettiford- they ball. Maluach does not ball. Bailey is definitely a baller, but only in low efficiency ways imo, and doesnt have a rounded or connective skillset otherwise imo. Like a taller Carmelo. I do not want a multi-year project (Maluach) next to Zion. I'd trade Z if thats the kind of moves we intend, at that point Maluach would be fine i guess; still uninspired though.

Absolutely. I don't even know what you are implying. The dude had them as a 4 seed by himself basically, and seemed to me to be their primary facilitator as well. I saw him bring them all the way back from being down against Colorado state by himself basically too. Had em in the game in the 1st half against Florida who is easily the better team and was the 1 seed. You wouldn't expect Maluach to be god in that situation either so you can gimme a break on Queen :)
