Highest in history by a wide margin. People are waking up to the modern Ivy scam.
There was a time when an Ivy degree was something to be admired.

It’s the major that they have chosen most of the time. They picked something like Gender Studies or some other liberal arts major. An engineering or nursing degree from LSU is more valuable than a Gender Studies degree from Harvard. Hell training as a plumber or electrician is more valuable than a Harvard Gender Studies degree.

I truly wonder if I want my kids to go to college anymore. It almost seems like a waste unless you wanna be a Dr. or a Lawyer.
Feel like in 2025 and in the future, if you apply yourself, you can learn just about anything either hands on or from something freely or cheaply available online.
Is college obsolete? Serious question. My kids are around the 10yo age. Don't see a need for them to go to school in 8-10 years.

Usually takes more than a month to get a job nowadays if you don't already have one lined up. That 25% number would be something to pay attention to in November, not June.

Im not kidding when I say if I had my own company I would actively avoid hiring Ivy league grads. They are way more likely to cause you trouble than help you.

A Harvard MBA could find a job. They are probably looking for something in a certain status/salary range. My guess is they could take something in retail, fast food, sales, etc. They just don’t want that type of work.

A lot of colleges have Lab schools. LSU has one. These schools are usually very good academically. On one of my trips to Harvard I visited the Harvard lab school. It was spring break so no students, but they had a hallway displaying the names of graduating seniors and where they intend to go on to college. There were about 40 graduates. The most common choice was not college. It was 'beautician school'. Ten of the girls picked that. I found out that Harvard was using DEI long before I ever heard of it and these students did not develop an interest in academics just because they were at Harvard.

Tell that to a welder that’s willing to move anywhere in the US, lol.

Depends. For white collar work, it’s still a pre-req for probably 99% of people. It’s not so much you learn anything valuable, as it is an expected feature.
It would be really hard to even get an interview for entry level white collar work without a degree. Down road, might be corporate ceiling limit without a degree - just as it gets harder for people with bachelors and not MBAs to move up at a certain point
If your kids aren’t interested in white collar work, then yes college is a complete waste of time

My wife and I, both college grads, have this conversation daily. Kids are 10 and 12.
The value of a college degree is plummeting and the cost is skyrocketing. It makes sense for some majors, but increasingly that isn't the path it appears. I have NO clue what the right path is for success now.

Not for Harvard. They usually have jobs lined up in the fall for June.

I don’t know if it’s calculated in there , but I wonder how much of the percentage is possibly spoiled rich kids who are in no rush to get a job.

Agree. I work in technology so my opinion is obviously skewed but coding, project management, application management, etc does NOT seem like something my kids need to go to college to learn.

Probably received some type free tuition due to DEI.

The topic is about college grads, not tradesmen.

If I owned a business and were looking to hire…a Harvard graduate would be bottom of the list.

Are those counted in June's unemployment numbers?

The tradesmen that I know go to RPCC River Parishes Community College, lol. I know people who moved from there to Nicholls or LSU and transferred their credits. It happens all the time. In Ascension parish it’s possible to have a 2 year associate’s degree when getting your high school diploma. These trades are training in Community Colleges now.
