Purchasing Good Crab Trap

The other weekend at Grand Isle my crab trap disappeared the second night I left it out. Either tide took it (don't believe as I had it anchored with a long piece of rebar hammered into the sand) or someone "thought" it was theirs.
In need of a good, sturdy trap. Is there any where on the way to grand isle that I can stop and pick a couple up? The one I had was fine, but it would collapse a little under pressure. Link to the trap I had and just looking for one a little more durable.

Southern Wire has them and it’s on the way. They had pretty affordable prices last I checked. They aren’t the big commercial ones but way better than that crap you were using.
ETA:
I also stopped putting crab pots out on the beach. People will either take your crabs (best case) or steal the trap. The got some women that patrol the beaches in carts and will steal anything they can get their hands on. I only put mine out by boat now.

depending on your route I’m sure Pierre part store has them. The commercial ones are sold at Gus’s in Slidell but that’s not on the way.
Just thinking about it, I’m not sure I’ve ever bought a crab trap. We never had a problem finding lost traps up in the mud or otherwise abandoned

They sale 95% of thier traps to commercial guys so I would say they are the commercial one. That's who I would recommend. Meleco Sisters has them and Dufrene Building materials too. Best best is to keep an eye on FB Marketplace and buy them used. They about $50 fully rigged out for a brand new trap.

No matter how sturdy you think you have them when it gets rough and tides change you never know.

Maybe so but I have a few I purchased from Southern Wire and a bunch I bought used that are twice as big. I actually prefer the smaller ones I got from southern wire because I have to pull them up by hand as supposed to the lift many of the crabbers use. Maybe they sell the big ones too. It’s been a while since I stopped by there.

and I can just pull up to Southern Wire and they have some for sale or do I have to order ahead of time?

If you ever find yourself on the Mississippi coast, Rising Sun Crab Traps makes quality traps. He used to just do them custom per order but I believe he has a little shop now. Can find him on facebook.

I would call them. They usually have a few in stock but not always.
