Good lord, it's based on a real story.
The Mortician is a gripping HBO documentary series that delves into the dark history of the Lamb Funeral Home in Pasadena, California. The series follows David Sconce, a crematorium operator who was convicted of multiple crimes, including illegal cremations, corpse mutilation, and even hiring hitmen to target rival morticians.

Started watching and I’m 40 minutes into episode one and it’s been a while since I wanted to punch someone in the face as bad as I want to punch this guy.
My mom and nephew were cremated. I’ll be cremated when I go. It’s almost everyone in our families wish when they go. We’ve taken my mom and and nephew all over the states and in other countries and spread their ashes. It’s a special moment every time.
For this guy to have a “who cares it’s not your loved one anymore people should get over it if it’s not their ashes” outlook is about as bad as it gets. My god. It’s not your right to make that decision dumbass. Can’t believe this guy is out of prison.

I don't know shite about the business but had family members cremated. Spread their ashes around the garden at a church.
How would you know those were actually their ashes or not? Begs the question for future cremations.

I have never had any doubt about my loved ones and as bad/messed up as this documentary is, I don’t get the feeling that this is even remotely a common practice.
1. It’s illegal. 2. It takes an extremely mentally ill or psychotic person to do this. 3. On a more basic level I don’t think most crematoriums are cremating THAT many bodies where they even need to do that.
Halfway done with the last episode and it’s kind of a joke the sentencing the family has received so far. 3 years for the parents and 5 for David. Gtfo.

Tri-State Creamatory Scandal
Right down from where my mom grew up. The son of a childhood friend of my mom’s ended being the defense attorney for the POS.
Crazy stuff happens more than you think. More evil in this world than people realize.

Just finished episode one.
All of this. I want to beat the frick out of this guy. When they started talking about using meat hooks and breaking bones to get 15+ in an oven.

There was story of a funeral home/crematory in NW Georgia from about 20 years ago where they weren't disposing of the bodies properly, but rather just stacking them up in a barn behind the building, like firewood.

On episode 1 and the math aint mathin.
He said he was charging 55 per cremation.
Delivery guy said he made 350 a day for 3 days a week.
Right hand man says he was making 6k a month.
Then it says he oversaw 1675 cremations in a year. Or 92K worth.
So hows he pay 54K to a delivery guy and 72K to another guy and pay himself.
Ill keep watching but these are things i dont like about these docuseries.
Now they say he made 20-30k a month off gold. At 300 an ounce for 1985, dudes getting 6 lb of gold a month?
I love how everyone justifies being associated with him because he is worse and that makes them okay.

shite, I didn't see that you'd posted right above me about this. This is the one I was referencing. I grew up over in Dalton, but once you got across the ridge to the west toward the TN/AL border, shite gets even weirder.

I was living in GA at the time and remember that story blowing up. Part of what made it strange was they couldn't really figure out why the son was burying and stacking up bodies all over the property instead of cremating them in the working furnace. It's like walking to the grocery store to save $3 in gas - the juice ain't worth the squeeze.

Yeah, mom and the Postens (Ken was defense attorney) grew up in Graysville right on the state line across from East Brainerd. The creamatory I think was closer to the other side of Ringgold.
Yeah, lots of weird stuff in that area. I didn’t live there but spent plenty of time there visiting my MeeMaw and other relatives. Right on the creek and it would get foggy at night by the railroad tracks. The place creeped me out as a kid.
