Just spent a week in the Keys. I know Florida controls development and regulations down there. But geez what a disappointment. Place reminds me of PCB back in the early 90s. A lot of shitty run down hotels and buildings. At least cut the freaking grass in the medians. Every 5 miles cops taking radar is not very welcoming. Key West absolutely sucks. Two shitty unmaintained beaches and absolutely nothing to do. Unless your old or gay. The chickens everywhere was the coolest thing there. I fed them even though they said it was a federal offense to do so.

My family has been going for over 50 years and we love it. But we also take our boat and go to all the different islands and reefs around. That’s what makes the keys special

Sorry to hear that it sucked for you but having drinks at Jimmy Johnson’s Big Chill while watching the sunset was pretty god damn magnificent for me.
Side note: fishing is absolutely amazing in the Keys.

My wife has family in the keys so we go pretty regularly.
It is common knowledge that the beaches suck.
You go to fish, take a boat to the sandbar, drink, and eat good food.
See some historic sites if you’ve never been.

we go to the Keys once a year. I, like you dont care for Key West. We typically stay in Marathon or Islamorada and I do take my boat. We spend our week on the boat and love every second of it.

You must be young. PCB is Panama City Beach. Used to be all cheap run down hotels and clubs. Was the party capital of spring break. Hurricane came through and destroyed it. Now it's all highrises and turn into Destin East.

You went to the wrong beaches. You miss the one the all the bare titties and thongs? There are very nice places to stay in Key West. Waldorf Astoria had a private white sand beach but it's a little ways from Duval. but it's not like Key West is that big. Good restaurants and bars, great fishing and diving. I recommend getting a house in the Truman Annex.
Nothing to do? Go snorkeling at the Dry Tortugas, Scuba diving, fishing, drinking, eating, people watching for sure, Parasailing and the usual beach crap, Haven't been since COVID though.
