DAT 6/10: Astros (LMJ) vs. Chi Sox (Smith) 7:10 SCHN

Back home after a decent road trip, nice opportunity for Lance to build on big strikeout number his last time out.
As we know the Astros tend to play to the level of their opposition, so despite having played the most games against >.500 (50) and the most wins against those teams (27) there is little optimism of taking care of business against the White Sox, who are starting to play a little bit better baseball and have some exciting pieces up with Meidroth, Teel, and they just called up former LSU Tiger Grant Taylor to throw out of their bullpen.
This is the start of a 13 game in 13 day stretch where they play 10 games against teams below .500 so an opportunity in the schedule to create separation in the division just by taking care of your business. I believe Espada said they'd like to go to a 6 man rotation during this stretch and with no long man in the bullpen gonna need a couple outings from dudes other than Framber and Hunter to go deep in games and keep the bullpen fresh.

Week in review:
- won B2B road series vs the Pirates and Indians
- Framber had a 5th consecutive quality start
- LMJ looked good again building off of his previous start. 6IP 7K 2H 0R. First win since 2022
- E-Sock hit 3HR
- ICYMI Forrest Whitley was DFA’d to make room for Brandon Walter
- Chandler if you’re reading this, you’re still a bitch
Injury updates:
Yordan: hitting in a cage. No timetable for return
Spaghetti: playing catch at 70 feet. No timetable for return
Dezenzo: N/A
Looking ahead:
3 vs White Sox
3 vs Twins

I think Walker out of the 4 hole is only b/c enough time has passed and he made enough contact that it will not look like he listened to his detractors
For whatever reason, I like it
Dusty Baker does not approve

Jake's OBP and speed suggest he should be batting 2nd right now.

I’m watching IT on MLBN and they put together a graphic of the top 10 OPS leaders in the AL at 1B
Walker not within 100 points of 10th place
I could not have named 4 of the top 10, and this was only AL. LOL

Yed’s return will really be a chance to shake things up
So I’m sure we’ll stick him in the 2 hole and FUBAR the opportunity

Once Yed is back, Caratini will need to grab the 1B glove a bit more. That would help. I'd guess we see this to start:
Pena
E-Sock
Tuve
Yed
Diaz/Carrot
Carrot/Stiff
Jake

Only 7 starting 1B in the league have a worse WAR than Cocksuck. Graphic below

That lineup makes me smile
Probably still missing a LH bat that would be a true contending one

Yep, need a good lefty bat that fills more days in LF or 2B. Will the right one at the right price shake loose before the deadline?

I know it’s hard to follow all 30 teams intently. But you can tell who knows the league and who doesn’t. There was an ESPN.com writer today who said “any kind of roster configuring that gets Altuve out of left field might not be the worst idea.”
Well, he’s in LF because he does less defensive damage there than at second base. He’s not a good LF but it’s easier to hide him there, especially behind strikeout and ground ball pitchers like Brown and Valdez, than to hide him at 2B. They’re probably not going to do anything that makes him play 2B more unless they get a significant bat upgrade in LF and have nowhere else to put him.

And what we could have had Ty France for at a full point of WAR higher production
Where would we even spend it? LOL

Exactly right. Less chances in LF and than at 2B to screw up. It's a basic numbers game.
The obvious solutions (second basemen who hit left-handed) are Brandon Lowe and Gavin Lux.
A sneaky target might be Nolan Gorman, who is blocked from 2B in St. Louis and would not only bring a LHH but more power to the lineup.
Pena
E-Sock
Altuve
Yed
Diaz//Carrotini
Walker
Gorman
Meyers
Smith
You'd also be able to try Gorman at 1B and LF while continuing to mix Melton into the lineup.

I don’t see the Rays moving anyone, esp Lowe
He and the team have been on a roll, and I don’t think it’s a temporary state

I don't really see them moving off of him either, but he has a team option next year for 11.5 mil and this seems to be about the time they'd get creative with helping their big league club while also sending out a big leaguer that they may not want to pay next year?
IDK what the Astros would have that could help them immediately

The Rays will move absolutely anyone with 3 years or less of control for the right return
They traded their best player in May of a season where they won 100 games the year after a World Series appearance. They are basically a trading algorithm disguised as a pro baseball franchise

Not sure what Cam Smith was doing there
ETA: Luis Robert Jr. 2-25 14K and has an RBI double

Hard to see an avenue to victory needing at least two runs.

Maybe don't walk a rookie in his 4th game after getting ahead 0-2.
Also Cam

Refreshing to see Cocksuck work a count to full and then get on base via walk. Rare occurrence
