What are you talking about? The Texas Rangers are the investigative unit (detectives) of the Department of Public Safety (state police). They aren't going to be out in hats and bats.
Fun fact though:
The notion of "one riot, one Ranger" is why the criminal offense of rioting is currently defined as an "assemblage of 7 or more persons" + a criminal conduct element.
Back in the day, a Ranger's primary weapon was a 6-shot pistol; only one Ranger was needed for every six bad guys. Nowadays, a "riot" is anything that can't be handled by a single Ranger (>6 or "7 or more persons").
