Due to some recent health scares, I’m newly sober, although I was never really a problem drinker. I miss my daily wine or beers after work. Other than weed, what’s some good natural supplements that can help take the edge off?

good old magnesium (glycinate or bisglycinate are my preferred forms of mag), L-theanine, chamomile, some people like valerian root or valerian hops. You say "not weed" but CBD stuff relaxes the hell outta me, there is no high, just relaxation, good sleep. As much as I love to "take stuff" for sleep, anxiety, pain, etc, the best supplement for sleep, relaxation, anxiety, etc, anything really, is just getting your mind right. I know how corny that sounds, but it's true. Cultivate a relaxed state of mind and you can supplement after that, but if you're worked up over something, no supplement will bring you down. You gotta start the process internally I believe.

I second the magnesium. I started taking it because I was getting persistent muscle twitches all over my body. I took magnesium glycinate and it went away within 12 hours. I also noticed a significant change in my sleep. I was well rested in the morning, which almost never happened before.

I now take it daily.

Magnesium glycinate. Natural muscle relaxer. Glycinate (versus something like citrate) won't make you shite your pants/frick up your stomach but will take the edge off. Good to take at night before bed for sleep purposes as well.

When I need to really ramp down my brain and body I take Cort-align. It's not going to slap you in the face with relaxation, but it makes me able to function. It isn't the cheapest supplement...but it works for me.

4-7-8 breathing has helped me a lot recently. I’ll perform it in bed, in a chair, even the shower sometimes. Usually 3-4 minutes is plenty.
