NAD craze is climbing. Can you test for those levels?

Rho nutrition is all over social media with their liposomal delivery but it’s 100mg and 30 servings per bottle, which is $50-$60 each.
Injectable NAD is available but you need a script for it, or you order from a company like Get Blokes out of Columbia.
IV NAD therapy is the best delivery but the highest cost.
I use a brand that is a sublingual dissolving dosage that you take 2x per day for 300mg total.
Any other options?

What brand, if you don’t mind sharing? What are the effects that you’ve noticed?

Manufactured by a friend’s compounding pharmacy on the North Shore.
I buy a case every 4 months. Several friends buy a bottle or two from me when they need it.
I’ve been taking it for at least 5 years. They worked on the delivery method for a while before releasing it.
I wish I could have levels tested to see where they are in relation to my age. Most people are surprised how old I am.

I take the Real NAD+ and honestly don’t see a big difference. It’s pricey and I continue to take it but not sure how long I will continue.

How much do you pay for it? I think the real test is after you stop taking it and how you feel.

I took one of these for a while and figured out that the problem with any longevity drug is you’ll spend a fortune and never know if it’s working until….uh…you don’t die?

It was over $50 per container. Didn’t feel much different.

I did this and found it to be a complete waste of money.

What scientific research influenced you and persuaded you to begin taking NAD?

my bjj instructor guy does this in shot form. says it is night and day for him on his recovery speeds, and he can "feel" it in his system for days after he takes a shot of it. can't recall if he takes it once weekly or what.

I read a study in mice given NAD.
5 year old adult male mice taking NAD for a period of time and compared autopsies on them compared to 6 month old mice.
Cellular data showed them identical in every way. No aging shown in the adults.

I researched it after hearing about it on a podcast. ChatGPT told me NAD was not very bioavailable other than IV. NMNH is a precursor to NAD (similar to NAC -> glutathione, which I'm a big fan of), and seems to be more bioavailable than NAD and has flooded the NAD market on Amazon, but there isn't enough research on it, according to AI. I don't have the time to dig into it myself, but does seem to be the new health influencer craze.

I am so confused. Da hell is NAD?

Per ChatGPT (I have not checked the sources):
I'm holding off on it until more research, but following this thread.
quote:
The Basics:
NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is critical for mitochondrial function, energy production, and DNA repair. Think of it as cellular fuel for cleanup and longevity processes (like sirtuin activation).
With age, NAD+ levels tank. Supplements aim to raise it.
quote:
Pros & Cons:
Compound Pros Cons
NAD+ Direct delivery Poor oral bioavailability
NMN Well-studied, effective Regulatory grey area (FDA cracked down on it as a “drug”)
NR Clean supply chain, patented, GRAS status May be less effective in muscle/brain
NMNH Promising speed & redox benefits Little to no human research, redox concerns
Final Skeptical Thought:
Boosting NAD+ indiscriminately is not a silver bullet. If the mitochondria are damaged or overloaded (e.g., by toxins, chronic stress, or poor sleep), you're just throwing more workers into a broken factory.

I took the Tru Niagen a while back which was expensive…however now it looks like NMN is the way to go and you can get that and reservatrol pretty reasonably from Bulk Supplements. I may give that a go and see if I notice anything.
It appears that there are questions of absorption with NAD+ whereas NMN is a precursor to NAD and is more easily absorbed. NMN has been shown to increase NAD levels in blood and interesting results in mice which is about all you can hope for at this stage of study.

Does anyone offer a blood test to check NAD levels?

Not that I’m aware. As I mentioned above and got downvoted, it’s one of those things that’s hard to quantify the value of taking as the goal is to prolong your life and improve cell function.
I started paying attention to it after David Sinclair did the JRE.
ETA: you can get 200 NMN servings at 500mg from Bulk Supplenets for $26 which is pretty good.
