Authorities say a burglar out plundering property from vehicles in Metairie Thursday night happened upon the car belonging to Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto and made off with a gun belonging to parish’s top cop.

The department did not say whether the vehicle was unlocked but said no broken glass was found around the car.

The case is still under investigation.

Not many things more embarrassing than a sheriff losing his gun. The badge might be worse but lol.

Where does a sitting elected Sheriff go where he cannot carry?

The news stations probably have hours of footage of him telling people not to leave valuables and guns in their car overnight.

I thought they passed a law about if you leave your vehicle unlocked and a gun stolen the owner of the car and the gun gets charged

This is what I find intriguing.

In this position of power that side arm should be glued to that man.

Central Metairie?? That’s a new one

Is that where t00f lives?

I wonder if the gun was his police issued gun or maybe just a side piece or hunting gun

As a JP resident I’ve been very happy with him. He does a good job dealing with unwanted visitors from Orleans and his officers always respond quick.

I like Lapinto, but this was a dumb move, leaving your gun in your vehicle. Those guys always preach about leaving firearms in your car…

Something I witnessed about Lopinto:

I was in Zuppardo’s checking out in the next lane from Lopinto. When he was walking to the exit after check out, he passed two uniformed deputies that were standing near the exit door. He was pushing his buggy and walked by the deputies and didn’t acknowledge them at all, not even a nod, didn’t even turn his head and look at them. After he passed, the deputies looked at each other and both shook their heads.

I was following him outside and he went to an International Scout vehicle that had been restored, that had the JPSO logos on it just like a regular patrol car. And was parked in the Fire Lane. I thought to myself that this dickhead should be setting an example and not park in the Fire Lane when he’s shopping for groceries.

Some a-hole proposed the bill but it didn’t make it out of committee.
