Social Energy

There are days/moments when I feel like I’m clicking and I have endless energy talking/joking with folks and then there are times when I got absolutely nothing to discuss and would prefer not seeing anyone. Would love to avoid being the guy that wants to avoid people. Can’t put my finger on why either happen. Anyone “figured out” what basically makes you enjoy being around others?

Sadly, alcohol

I think it’s normal. Hard to find consistency day to day. On the days when everything is clicking I try to retrace my steps for the day to find common themes. I wish that I could just bottle whatever it is and drink it every morning.

With the right folks, I am a giant ball of enthusiasm and conversation and I am energized by the interaction.
With others, enough booze grants me enough serenity to not seem like a disinterested a-hole.

Not a full time loner. Half the time, sure. Other half, I’m very social. Almost always have a crash after being socially active. Like running on batteries

Exactly. Would love to know how to keep the motor running

I would say just listen to your psyche and give yourself time to recharge, but you can try euphoric stimulants as an alternative. You'll enjoy the shite out of the most mundane interactions.

Bring around people wears me out. I prefer to be doing something than trying to make hours of small talk. Used to drink to deal with it, but now that I don’t drink I try and avoid large gatherings.
Group dinners with coworkers at restaurants on a business trip are the worst.

There is no motor that can be turned on and off that simply.
You are who you are. I hate to say it, but the solution to this is alcohol and drugs. You can eat clean and workout, self improvement, etc. to put yourself in a better headspace but you reach a limit.
I'm the same way, brother. Love yourself. Those who understand you will get it.

Same.

You are an introvert.
Take Myers Briggs (faithfully) and you can learn a lot about yourself.

You are not the only one who feels this way. Take advantage of those times when you enjoy being around others but always value your time alone. You sound like a completely normal human being.

I think you’re an introvert who is most likely over-doing it during the times you want to be social.
Being an introvert doesn’t mean you don’t want to be around people…it means it takes energy and you have a limit. Gotta pace yourself.
