Who exactly do we need protection from? China needs our dollars and Russia wouldnt give a damn about us if we just didnt kill their people.

Regardless if we have them by the balls we still need something like this just in case. If we get attacked by China or Russia it will be by a proxy not them directly by military and it won’t be a nuke.

I remember when nukes were cutting edge......and nobody uses them.

The golden dome is not for now.. it’s for the future once China, Russia and whoever else will have the capabilities to shoot at USA from outer space.

I've always thought of this as another application of the red queen hypothesis explaining evolutionary arms races; a good example (illustrative, and not the best) would be the Cheetah and Thomson's Gazelle.

It’s like saying why does someone need to be trained in Jiu-Jitsu? You hopefully never have to use it it real life, and will back away from confrontation, but when you are cornered it’s time to roll and kick arse.

Your analogy only makes remote sense if those Jiu-Jitsu classes are $100,000 each, and you need 100 of them. Suddenly, not such a great idea.
