Anyone know when was the last time the eventual National Champion didn’t start 2-0 in the Regional round? Just curious. Thanks!

I do not. They did show a stat that 82% of regionals winners start 2-0. 93% of regional winners start 1-0

I know LSU lost one of the first 2 games of the regional in 1993. Maybe Western Carolina.

That would be incredible if that’s the last time it happened. Which would also mean that every eventual national champ during the current format has started 2-0 in the regionals.

In 2023 Florida started 1-1 in their regional & made the cws finals

Oregon State in 2007 was a 3-seed in Virginia's regional and lost to Virginia in the 1-0 game, only to come back and win the regional and eventually it's second straight CWS.

Went down a wikipedia rabbit hole. the last time a national champion started out 0-1 in a regional was Stanford in 1988 after it opened up its tournament with a 5-3 loss to St. John's.

I have no idea how we got a regional with no other Power 5 schools but I’m glad we did. Hopefully breeze through and be ready to go for supers.

Dallas Baptist has been a better program than Miami or USC over the last 20 years.
Just because you don't recognize the school's name from football doesn't mean they are weak.

DBU is more than capable of winning this regional.
It’s not going to happen but they are capable.

I thought Oregon State one year lost their first game of every round possible and won the CWS. Could be wrong.

Nope.
They won their first game in 06, 07 and 18.

Not the same, but in '97 LSU had to win 3 straight in that regional format after losing to USA in the 3rd game--2 of those wins having to come back to back against USA in the regional finals. LSU went on to win the CWS, of course, that year.

So it appears this is the only time for it to happen in the 25 previous tourneys (1999-2024). So it’s HIGHLY likely based on 25 years of results that one of these teams wins it all:
Louisville
Miami
FSU
USC
UNC
Arizona
Coastal
Auburn
Arkansas
Tennessee
WVU
LSU
Duke
Murray St
UCLA
UTSA
