i can't tell if this is a good thing or bad thing. we're talking 15-20" inches or larger or more.
i know they are good at eating vegetation but at that size are they going to cause more problems than they solve?
WWTOBD?

They won't hurt anything and if there is enough food, they will get bigger.
I put 30 in my lake last year.
Also, they are sterile so, they won't reproduce.

How did they get in there? Did you stock the pond with any?

Dam Cad, that's a beautiful piece of property.

if it were mine I’d get rid of them. If there is a fisheries management resource available to you in your area you can hire them to come do a test shock and see what all comes up, then decide what to do. If all you have is the carp and a bunch of other trash fish like shiners etc you could (if you wanted) shock the whole thing and then restock

the bigger they get the lazier they get and don't eat as much per pound and smaller ones.

Your pond is bad-arse. I would take those carp out though. They will destroy most of the aquatic vegetation along the shorelines which are good for your young fish to escape predators.

There was probably an issue with overgrowth of vegetation in the pond and thats why carp were put in there. If you take those carp out, you might have an issue with vegetation over growth. Something to think about.

Depends on how your pond is, if beneficial vegetation is scarce I'd get rid of them. Buying a few carp down the line is alot easier than growing grass again. Ask False River about that

Very bad. I had that problem. Kill all fish and start over( rotenone). It’s cheaper than you’d think . In year 2 you can harvest healthy young bass..

It's May and OP is in Nashville. My lake has zero veg right now but in a couple of months will have a lot unless my carp do a really good job.

Honestly don't know. I'm sure there is something down there that they eat, but the heavier grass that they're put in to control won't so up until the water warms up more. Usually over in June.
ETA: the guy from the state that told me to put them in my lake recommended I think 10-15 per acre.
I only put a fraction of his recommendation just to see how they do and can add more if I need to.

When you mow blow the grass clippings in the pond, they will go nuts.
If I was trying to grow bass I'd get rid of them
