I started a thread a while ago about this trip and have went back and forth on how to book it. It will be my wife and two boys, ages 4 and 6.

Originally I thought Jackson Hole and then staying inside Grand Teton Park and then inside Yellowstone and then Bozeman. 3-4 days in each. Now I'm concerned that's too much moving and will be exhausting for the boys. Also the accommodations inside the park aren't the best and are not ideal for an extended stay of 6-8 days.

Maybe I'm over thinking it. Anybody have any suggestions?

Driving into and out of the parks daily will be exhausting. Your kids are moving hotel rooms not breaking down and setting up camp sites each day, they will be fine.

I've never stayed in the parks, so I can't speak about that other than you'll likely need to book well in advance and may already be too late.

Jackson is perfect for exploring Grand Teton, which is much smaller than Yellowstone.

Staying inside of Yellowstone sounds ideal if you can get a place. Otherwise West Yellowstone and/or Gardiner are good spots to lodge. I've also stayed in Silver Gate or Cooke City near the NE entrance which is very close to Lamar Valley, but you'll be somewhat roughing it if you stay there compared to the other locations i mentioned.

Stay in Teton Village. it’s an easy, beautiful drive into the park. For yellowstone we stayed at old faithful lodge for two nights which was plenty for our family. I will say, having a cocktail on the deck at old faithful inn was a highlight

I've done a similar trip, staying in Jackson, Jenny Lake, and Headwaters Lodge at Flagg Ranch. If you prefer one location to do both Tetons and Yellowstone, without having to move, then look at Headwaters Lodge at Flagg Ranch. It's in northern Grand Tetons, just south of the southern Yellowstone entrance. They have cabins there which makes it not feel like you're in a hotel, and feels more authentic to the trip. You can go south to Tetons or north to Yellowstone, and mix it up day to day without moving. Make sure to grocery shop in Jackson and pack a cooler with items to grill at night and sandwich stuff for lunches, as amenities are limited. A night or two at Jenny or Jackson Lake is special though if you can make it happen.

Did this trip last year. This is what we did and I would do again. Two nights in Jackson. Cool town to visit and you can spend a day at the Tetons. Then drive into Yellowstone after checking out of Jackson hotel, stay in the park or West Yellowstone. Next day continue driving North to Gardiner, MT. Next day head south and stay back in Jackson. Moving around was no big deal and recommend.
