Contrarian take:
I hate the new fascination with the word "room" in sports. Started with Herbstreit and bros wanting to sound hip with college coaches
Contrarian take #2:
I don't get the fascination with Nussmeier. I don't think he's that good. Maybe the QB landscape is just poor this year, but no way in hell do I see him being the best QB in the country this year

r. I don't think he's that good.
He certainly had some bad issues last season. Time will tell if he can correct that.

The biggest step a QB takes in development is going from their first year of starting to their second. See the two heisman QBs that LSU has had in the last 6 years.
I'm not saying that he's going to win the heisman, but he's going to be better this year than he was last year, and he wasn't bad last year.

This list is more about ranking the rest of the room moreso than the starter
LSU is 1 bc of a strong returning senior QB and a transfer who started as a true freshman at an SEC school last year and showed some good stuff while doing it. Pretty rare to have in today’s portal era at the QB position

Nuss is a pretty flawed QB, but most college QBs are.

Lot of dart throwing given NIL, transfers and unproven recruits.
If I were picking a QB to win with in 2025 it would either be Lagway or Sellers, but even they have questions as to whether they hit a ceiling as teams figure out what they can and can’t do like we saw with Milroe last year.

Nuss is literally the nation's returning leading passer and his backup started 9 games last year for an SEC team

I will agree that Nuss threw some boneheaded picks last year. But if he can at least clean his decision making up just a little, Nuss is definitely a Heisman caliber QB. Really bad play calling didn’t help Nuss either. Hopefully our lack of creative play calling improves this year as well.

He was 9th in SEC QBR last year behind Peyton Thorne.
He just threw a ton (80 more attempts than the next SEC QB) because yall had no running game to speak of so he ended up with a lot of yards in a league with guys like Milroe and Diego Pavia who were running glorified option offenses.
No one is saying Nuss can’t blow up next year like Burrow did, but he didn’t have the season on the field LSU fans seem to think he did last year.

Keelon Russell,
If a football team has 2 good QBs that could start, count your blessings. It won't happen at the same place 2 years in a row with the same players. The days of a 5-star QB waiting his turn are almost unheard of. BAMA happens to have such a QB in 4th year Ty Simpson, and I'm more than thankful. Having another 5-star QB, Keelon Russell, waiting in the wings doesn't hurt either.

He got the Bama Bump only because Bama stole him from SMU, is anyone really fooled by this?

Lagway will be good but unfortunately plays for a dipshit HC and staff.

Does anybody besides ESPN use QBR?

Well, being that they created the metric…
ETA: no one talks about college football quarterback ratings either.
