This pretty much aligns with CSU and the other prognosticators.

https://www.noaa.gov/news-release/noaa-predicts-above-normal-2025-atlantic-hurricane-season

.

They also mentioned:

quote:

Improved hurricane analysis and forecasts in store for 2025
NOAA will improve its forecast communications, decision support, and storm recovery efforts this season. These include:

NOAA’s model, the Hurricane Analysis and Forecast System, will undergo an upgrade that is expected to result in another 5% improvement of tracking and intensity forecasts that will help forecasters provide more accurate watches and warnings.

NOAA’s National Hurricane Center (NHC) and Central Pacific Hurricane Center will be able to issue tropical cyclone advisory products up to 72 hours before the arrival of storm surge or tropical-storm-force winds on land, giving communities more time to prepare.

NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center’s Global Tropical Hazards Outlook, which provides advance notice of potential tropical cyclone risks, has been extended from two weeks to three weeks, to provide additional time for preparation and response.

90% chance this season is either normal or above normal.

Going out on a big limb, there.

Don’t they predict above normal every single year?

With satellite technology we've had for the past 20 years, every season is normal but appears way above normal because now we see everything that we didn't see decades ago, when our current averages began being calculated.

And if there are 25 storms that never hit land it’s not a big deal.

Weather needs the rules of the Price is Right.

Who ever predicts the correct number of storms without going over wins…

Instead it always shoot for the moon and if we over predict we were right and if we were under we were still right.

Not really impressed with the preseason forecast this season, and I tend to lean below normal, but it's really just guessing. We might get a stat booster in the 2nd week of June. It typically takes some early season name wasters to get above avg named storms.

NOAA's track record hasn't been so good lately.

If you think these predictions mean anything you ain't paid attention since Katrina. As the season moves along they will adjust their predictions each month to match what's happening. They know as much as you on what's going to happen.
