Does anyone have experience using this? Long story short, went to leave for a Disney Cruise this morning and received some very bad news about an immediate family member. We decided to cancel, my wife spoke with Disney and they will allow us to pick a new date with a $300/person fee. We called chase and asked if they would pay for that (lesser amount) rather than having to pay the entire amount, but they wouldn’t give us a definite answer. We’re just nervous to cancel with Disney and Chase denying us and being back to square one.

I got denied for a $97 car rental charge from Avis for a nail in a tire because I submitted it more than 100 days after the rental, but I didn't get charged until over 100 days after the rental.

Used it for damage to a rental car. They tried to deny it but I got someone on the phone and read them their reimbursement policy word for word where it stated that the damage was covered. She agreed and they paid.
Just look up their reimbursement policy and see if your situation is covered.

Hate to say it OP but obviously you need to talk to Chase asap. My honest guess is that you’d have an easier time with a straight cancellation and rebook.

Travel insurance generally has to have a written reason. Like you send them in a doctors note, funeral service information, hospital bill, etc. Then they reimburse. It’s fairly black and white.

I’m not sure you’ll have an easy time finding a reasonable human to understand you could have canceled for say $4,000 total but chose the $1,200 date change to save Chase money.

It's shocking the amount of people that pay for, or assume travel insurance will actually do anything for them in the most likely scenarios. There are people that buy extended warranties for cars, too I guess.

Yep. I’m assuming OP is talking about the insurance included with the Chase Sapphire credit card though? For no charge?

Correct, my wife had called chase prior to me posting that and the guy on the line punted answering her question. I went back and re-read the policy this morning and change fees is a reimbursable expense.

I don't want to be the a-hole, but whatever announcement you received is of so little value that you're getting twisted about fighting with a credit card company over $1200, when you pay them at least $300 a year (not sure if Reserve) just to hold the card.

I spent 15 minutes of effort to get $600 out of United, and you're lining the battlements over something that seems to be neither here nor there except for the cost. Did you think insurance was ever on your side? On this board?

Whatever your canceling scenario is, it will end up being the worst. Your circumstances will dictate whether you care whether you care if you get anything out of it or not.

FFS, you booked a Disney cruise, is this trip reimbursement really going to move the needle?

I have received full credit before with the Chase card, but as others have said- you need to follow their rules to the T and be persistent.

I doubt they will reimburse a discount amount in your case, but if cancellation fits their criteria, they should reimburse. Be prepared to provide solid written documentation which you may have to get from the cruise line and doctors, etc.
