Is Walmart federally regulated? Why can’t they raise prices?
Posted on 5/17/25 at 10:50 am to DaTruth7
they can raise prices but when the dollar store, kroger, target, etc are cheaper then people are going to shop there instead. frick Walmart. They need to sharpen their fricking pencils if they want to still be competitive

I can promise you that no major corporate entity will be “eating the tariffs.” These companies are built on greed and extending profit margins. They give zero shits that Trump is watching.

Agreed, it’s how it should be. Basic economics

They certainly can.
And the president can offer his commentary on their motivations.
Wasn’t long ago the left was concerned with corporate gouging.

Maybe some are taking advantage of the tariff war. Raising prices more than adjusted tariffs. And why does a business feel the need to announce across the board price increases. I wouldn't till it became a public issue but not the CEO of wallyworld. He wants everyone to know who to blame. Thus DJTs reply.

It’s not really the president’s place to go after individual free market corporations on pricing. Now declare Walmart a monopoly and that is different

And these stores are just taking an opportunity to raise prices and blame it on something else
Dollar store is doing the same
Interesting that gas and grocery prices are going down.

It’s fair commentary given Walmart injecting politics.

Exactly.
“Prices are going up, guys. We’re sorry and we hate to do it, but it’s not our fault. Trump and his tariffs did this.”

Full circle now. Tarrifs and economic policy don't cause inflation and businesses shouldn't protect their margin. It's greedy corporations ....why can't they just absorb these costs and move on they make plenty......
Sounds like a Biden Kamala board this morning...

Trumps message is just the same ole progressive/socialist anti-corporate anti-profit message that the right has always shot down as being anti-capitalist.
No free enterprise is going to eat cost for some politicians gain. Hell, they'd probably be sued by their stockholders for not seeking to exploit any profit potentials. Walmart like all publicly traded businesses are focused on maximizing profits.

Leftists: “Corporate greed! They’re price gouging!”
Trump criticizes corporations.
Leftists: “He’s attacking corporations! Let the free market decide!”
It’s so predictable.

Walmart isn’t going eat those tariffs nor is anyone else. It will be passed on to the consumer

Trump could come out today and say, “Please, don’t eat dog shite. It’s not good for you.”
And leftist would be in your yard searching out, collecting and eating dog shite.

What tariffs would they have to eat?
Which products are now expensive?

If GM said they can "eat" the tariffs, why can't Walmart?
Especially since Walmart says 75% of everything they sell is made in the US.
