Club Champion for Club fitting

I'm in the Houston area. My Son needs to get a set of clubs for Highschool golf team. Has anyone used Club Champion to get fitted for clubs? I'm not a golfer so I know very little about the process.

My experience with Club Champion was good. They have all the options and data to show you. But just know going in it’s going to be about the most expensive way to get fitted.

They sent me a deal $50 for fitting if I buy clubs there. Should I expect some hidden fees? Or are their clubs more expensive than other places?

Does your son play golf or is he just getting starting? Either way don’t let them talk you into their premium shaft offerings or paying to have them “trued”
But it’s probably the best big fitting outfit to answer your question. They just like to rob your coffers.

When they charge you $1000 for a $500 driver, that’s the hidden fee.

He is in 8th grade. Currently using a set of clubs I bought used back in 2002. He decided he wants to concentrate on golf in highschool. So i told him I would get him a set for his birthday comming up to use in highschool. Right now he shoots in the upper 80's but I don't know enough about golf to know whats the right set to get him.

Man I’d probably just go to a golf galaxy or the like and see what his swing speed is. Go home, do the Takomo online fitting calculator and order him some 101t’s.
You go in club champion and you’ll be walking out a couple/few grand lighter.

Thanks for the advise. Would a fitting at Golf Galaxy be just as good? and a cheaper route for my pocketbook? LOL

Any of the big golf box stores fittings are going to be very basic but it’s definitely better than just buying a set off the rack. I’m not sure if GG will do any lie angle adjustments or not.
If he is shooting mid 80s almost anywhere you go is going to put him in about 1 of 6 different players distance irons. “P790, zxi5, T200, I530, or Callaway apex. Id wager those 5 make up 65% of every iron sold.
All of which will be in the $1100-1400 range

What is he playing with now?

I had a set I bought used in 2002 that he is playing with now. I believe they are Taylor Made clubs.

I had a good experience. Got fitted for a driver and it’s the best club in the bag. Yes you overpay if you get the driver there, ps you don’t have to if you pay attention to what the recommendations are

Sounds like he could benefit from new tech.
However, IF he likes his fairway woods, he might should just keep them.
A full bag fitting at one session is tough even for a young fit guy.
Priority
1. Driver.
2. Irons
3. Fairways/hybrids
Putter/Wedges he can sort out on his own.

Just go to a big box store and buy him some game improvement irons. A fitting really won’t help his game at this point since he will be growing a ton over the next couple of years.
Club champion will run you double the price that you pay elsewhere.

I went to Club Champion expecting a higher price, but wanted the experience and to see what all the fuss was about(good and bad). Their pricing exceeded my expectations. Of course they waived the fitting fee when they sold me a $650 driver for $1000. Fitting was great and I love my driver, but can’t imagine it wouldn’t have been just as good at Golf Galaxy.

Ok yes CC is expensive and has markup, but for everyone saying they are selling you a $500 for $1,000, that’s not true.
First of all, you aren’t even getting out for $1,000, but they’re fitting you to the latest premium driver head and a premium shaft. That’s important to understand. The head is going to be $600 and shaft $350. That’s just retail price. You can take their recommendations and try and go buy the head and shaft anywhere else brand new and that’s what it will cost. So just right there you’re looking at a $1,000+ driver after tax.
Then add $50 for the fitting and add another $120 for the “puring”. This extra $170 is where they make their money.. and the puring is optional. Just decline it.
So they are selling you a $1,000+ driver for almost $1,200 if you buy the puring.

Unless he’s shooting around par, go to the PGA Superstore, hit a few clubs and buy off the rack. If you can’t get around par with stock clubs, fitting is just a waste of money.

It's all about the fitter, if you go to a location, check reviews and look to see if their is a fitter that lots of people talk about. Also you could maybe email the coach and see if he has a suggestion.

Except a lot of manufacturers will offer a lot of different shaft options as free/cheap upgrades. CC knows this and will somehow always fit you into a more exotic shaft that they know the head manufacturer doesn’t offer.
For example, titliest offers a ton of different shaft options for no extra charge. But CC will make sure you fit into an Accra that isn’t available through titleist.
