Maybe the most dangerous thing on a highway like that is a stalled or wrecked vehicle at night. shite like that happens in SoCal pretty regularly. There was a stringer on a show called Shot in the Dark who pulled a guy from a burning car after a situation similar to this one.

Over 30yrs as LEO I have never had this happen but have had some VERY close calls with people who dont yield to emergency vehicles and basically never even slow down.
About 10yrs ago we really started writing for failure to yield and riding in the left lane of travel.
