Having Dog Fixed

I had my dog fixed and the vet insisted he come home with the big, clear collar around his neck. Is it ok to take it off? The vet says leave it on a couple days so he will not lick or irritate the surgery location.

No, leave it on, it was put there for a reason
The dog will 100% lick the wound and open it

I took the cone off my lab when she was around me and I could give her a NO if she started licking.
But they will lick the shite out of the scar if you leave them alone.

Take cone off = dig licks wounds = infection = another trip to vet = you sell your left kidney to pay vet for treatment

do you think the vet put that on the dog for shits and giggles? Yes, leave it on as instructed.

I had a dog fixed in the past and he was not sent home with one and did not have any problems. I have a buddy that had his dog fixed recently and did not have one sent home and he had no problems. I guess it’s just Dr preference.

On this website there are lots of dumb posts and quite a few DUMB posts. This post is worse than those.

Get on Amazon and search for an inflatable protective pet collar. They’re so much easier on your pet, doorways and walls. Chances are you’ll need it again throughout your dog’s lifetime.

I had my catahoula fixed as a pup. They made me buy the cone of shame. She proceeded to be so flexible that it was worthless. She was running buck wild a day or two later. Cur dogs are way tougher than labs though.

Dog fixed in morning (she, no pics) and she stayed overnight at vets. Picked her up in morning with no cone. No issues.
