Martin Iron Works
Check this guy out in Houma. My father purchased one a few years back and it has held up pretty well. Paint has chipped in a few places but it stays outside 24/7. You can custom the sides to anything you want. Has the removal grate to cook ontop that we have used for steaks and oysters a few times.

re: What Happened to the Point Cocodrie Inn?
Posted by GrandIsle12 on 8/19/25 at 3:34 pm to SOLA
Correct Boudreaux's Marina owned by the Boudreaux family. Oil spill was beneficial as BP kept the bunk rooms full and the restaurant serving. But after that I know it was hard to keep the restaurant aflot. Hard to find consistent work down there and the family/kids were getting busy with school and their own lives. Cocodrie can be pretty dead in the off season so I'm sure it was hard to keep the restaurant busy and make it worth it - something Benny Cenac can afford to overcome with his check book at CoCo.
I belive the oyster guys that bought the place offered Mr. Boudreaux a price he couldn't pass up.
Boy that was a pretty place though. Many memories sitting at the restaurant overlooking the marsh as the sun was setting after a day of fishing. Doesn't get much prettier than that.

re: Tips on building a fishing pond?

I would recommed you look at BAMA BASS on youtube. Scroll through his videos starting 3-4 years ago where he begins building his own pond. A lot of good information there and gives advice on the mistakes he made so you can avoid

re: Places to live in Shreveport

More bad neighborhoods than good in my epxereince. If you can afford South Shreveport, that's where I would look. The Broadmoore and South Highlands areas are also very nice, affordable, and centrally located.
re: Dog diabetes - glucose in urine?
Posted by GrandIsle12 on 3/13/25 at 10:23 am to tadman
Get a second opinion from another vet.
Glucose in urine could be from diabetes or renal failure (not an exclusive list), but further blood tests could help determine the origin. Always better to catch and treat these things earlier than later.

re: Another Bay Boat price question... 175 hrs on a 15 year old boat
Posted by GrandIsle12 on 2/7/25 at 8:45 am to Islandboy777
Engine hours can really mislead people. In an inshore/bay boat, you typically run the distance to your spots, turn off the engine, and throw out your trolling motor. Some run further than others to their fishing spots but lets just say you average 3-4hrs of run time in a day of fishing. It will take a while to accumulate hours on that engine. I would still say that this is a low hour engine for its age, that doesn't mean that the owner doesn't baby the boat/engine.
On the other hand, you see these offshore boats with high engine hours because most never turn off their engines while fishing. Our sword and grouper trips usually take about 12hrs and the engines are on the whole time and we make a couple of those trips a year on top of the other fishing adventures for snapper and such. Engines has 500+hrs in 4 years.
In purchasing this boat, I'd be more interested in how the boat looks overall to gauge how much wear and tear or neglect the engine has. Is it kept out in the sun? Covered? Lots of spider cracks? Does it look like its been waxed since its been bought? Based on the appearance of the boat and hull, you can estimate the shape of the engine.

New to the area and wanted to see what the board has to suggest. This first deer will be mostly ground meat but will do other cuts and sausage in the future. TIA
