The Esplanade, also known as Esplanade Mall, was a suburban shopping mall located in the New Orleans suburb of Kenner, Louisiana, United States.

The mall was built and opened on October 9, 1985. The original owners were Cadillac Fairview. The mall's original anchors were D. H. Holmes, Leon Godchaux, and Mervyn's. A Macy's was added in 1986. Dillard’s acquired the former D. H. Holmes Anchor in 1989. Dillard’s Men took over for Leon Godchaux in 1992

Social media and online shopping has killed the mall - which was a hub of social interaction for a long time

Would make for some awesome condos with residents only accessing the interior areas.

The downfall of the indoor mall in America is tragic. Now we're left with cheap Chinese shite shipped to our door and run-down half empty strip malls

Not everywhere. Malls are making a comeback in some locations. Normal kids want to hang out there same as the 80s and 90s. (Normal kids, not youts)

Make a hotel out of it and move Blue Bayou rides there. Charge a shite-pile of money to get a room with rides free. Like that Great Wolf place.

Lakeside seems to be doing well.

Esplanade started dying after Katrina, when it started catering to the urban wear crowd.

We used to ride our bikes from Woodlake Estates to play video games at the arcade and hit on the girls in the food court. Dante's Pizza FTW.

Still home to a fine Dillard’s clearance store.

That mall sucked. Good riddance.

Hopefully we’ll get some good U-Haul storage there soon.

It was fine pre-Katrina.

Most of the good stores didn’t return post flood.

Visions of Fast Time at Ridgemont High just popped into my head.
Yeah, I’m old.
