What if Obama picked someone other than Diaper Joe as his VP

If he had chosen anyone that wouldve been able to function on their own and played the game better. What would the political landscape look like if Joe wasnt installed, would the dems have devolved beyond recovery so quickly.

Dems are narsasistic to their very core and always pick someone who doesn't have any possibility of taking the spotlight off of them even for 1 second.

Both had establishment to satisfy to [try] and accomplish 'outsider' goals.

Biden has never been an astute scholar. But he has always been irredeemably corrupt and knows all the dirty tricks in the playbook. At the time he was selected by Barry Soerto to be the VP, Biden was actually pretty close to perfect for what they wanted- the guy who comes across as "likeable and nice", "grandpa Joe", but beneath the Krylon facade is just another compromised swamp fixture who will protect the Establishment at all costs.
There's no way anyone could have predicted how fast Biden's mental decline would occur.

could have deduced how stupid he was to begin with pretty easily though

Joe was the ultimate "safe" pick due to his excellent traits of corruptibility and known skeletons.
Those with the most exposure are the least likely to rock the boat. Mutual blackmail guns pointed at each other's heads. Mutually assured political destruction if either side steps out of line.

The Anita Hill hearings and multiple instances of plagiarism (even to open a campaign!) were just tips of the iceberg.
And anyone that stupid that becomes and stays a Senator is going to be very corrupt. Getting the black vote to stay in office was his one and only accomplishment and even then the party and it's handlers did it for him.

Both parties tend to make VP choices on the basis of helping win an election rather than the merit of the person themselves. Kennedy thought he needed the evil POS LBJ to win Texas, and maybe he did, but ultimately JFK needed LBJ like he needed a hole in his head (sadly, pun intended). Same reason why McCain chose Sarah Palin, or why Biden chose Kama-lama-ding-dong.
If anything, a competent person instead of Brandon would've been even worse for the country. We almost had that person in the form of Hildabeast back in 2016, and I think that 8 years of Obama/Clinton on the heels of 8 years of Obama would've irreparably sabotaged America.
So, even though it was hard to endure, I thank God for 4 years of the senile old crook, followed up by the Dems choosing AN EVEN WORSE CANDIDATE in the form of Kamala Harris. That led to (hopefully) 4 years of Trump and a CHANCE to right the ship. The Deep State/Globalists could still win, and are probably even the betting favorite right now, but at least we have a CHANCE.

If Hillary’s ego had allowed it, she might have won in 2016.

Choosing him in 2008 was not the problem.
Choosing him in 2020 was.
Choosing him in 2020 was.

Really, Biden was perfect for Obama in 2008 in a few ways. First they needed to clean up the appeal of the ticket and an old, white, north-easterner that spent a lifetime in politics hit a couple key topics. He normalized the ticket in the sense it paired new and old, black and white and experienced and inexperienced.
Biden also had no real track record on any of the key issues at the time. He had some scandals for sure, but he had no real positions that he ever took regarding the financial sector or foreign policy. He was kind of the clown prince of the senate.
He also shored up some key states. Not that PA was really in play in '08, but it at least gave them the talking point that they valued the rust belt. Honestly it was very surprising that Shapiro didn't get the nod for VP with Kamala, unless he backed out. PA might have swung blue and potentially tightened up a couple other states. Waltz is an incompetent clown of the highest order.

Biden was picked to bridge white working class voters in the rust belt swing states who were skeptical of Obama. That and he was picked as he was a consummate deal maker in the Senate and getting shite done on the Hill. Biden chaired a lot of powerful committees and knew everybody and was key in advancing Obama’s agenda.

He probably wouldn’t have been elected. The democrats can only win national elections by feigning “moderation.”

The only other viable candidate was Hillary. That ticket would’ve been too radioactive, not to mention her ego couldn’t take being Vice President.
Biden was a great choice given he was attempting to placate the establishment wing of the party, and reach out to rural white voters.
Remember, Biden was a good/great public speaker and a good debater at the time. His faux pas served as a comedic relief/humanization for the ticket.
If Hillary was chosen, there was a potential for backlash against the ticket because she was so unpopular as she is today.

Good point.
I think it is safe to say that Biden as a VP pick did not moderate much of anything.
The genesis of our current NGO mess (or corruption thereof) largely happened during those 8 years.
All Obama's "transformation" speeches seemed hollow at the time, but i think everything was happening in the shadows (setting up the NGO tangled web that wasnt decipherable without the use of recent AI tools).
I dont recall hearing much about Biden at all during those 8 years. I guess he was given a free hand to go shake down Ukraine and China businesses.

Biden was assassination insurance to guard against Obama being killed.
Just as Kamala was assassination insurance against Biden being killed. Unfortunately, Biden was already dead.

His “ international” diplomacy experience was tossed around to both cover for Obama’s inexperience, and turn Joe loose to set up himself and the Dems for money laundering. Obama even highlighted it by declaring Joe the Ukraine ”Czar”. That put Hunter front and center.

Weren't there rumors that Evan Bayh was offered the VP spot in 08 but backed out?

Oh, this is certainly a valid argument.
