Was the phone recovered from the bear's stool the next day?

What are your options? Start acting like prey and run? That's not to say I wouldn't have pooped my pants and hoped the smell drove him away.

Heading to Banff next month. Getting bear spray at the Calgary duty free store as soon as we land.

Slowly back away but get off the trail and do so.

Bears are lazy, they use the trails too. More than likely it would just keep walking on the trail.

Grizzly territory when they are coming out of hibernation and with cubs.

What could possibly go wrong?

Before hiking the Highline Trail in Glacier National Park last September I was told by locals that grizzlies will generally attack if you startle them or get in between a sow and her cub(s). We watched this sow and her cub for about 20 minutes from about 30 yards while they were foraging and although she knew we were there she couldn't be bothered.

Makes sense but what about the tremendous odor I would be putting out

The guy was holding bear spray. He was prepared. That shite is exponentially stronger than pepper spray.

Need to hike in groups of 4 or more. You are taking chances up there hiking alone.

Wife and I went there several years ago and up to Jasper. We loved to hike but were terrified we were going to run into a grizzly. Had bear spray and all with us though.

We went running around the lake at the lodge in jasper and came up on a cow elk standing on the trail so we came to a stop. As soon as we did that 2 of her calves came trotting up behind us, so now we’re between them two. Well she ended up chasing us both into the lake that day. lol
