I’d guess that someone who already knew him at the time saw him on the broadcast and remembered.

I know I’d remember if I saw one of my buddies on TV during a World Series broadcast. Even if they didn’t remember which game it was, it was a sweep. So only 2 possibilities for the games played in Chicago.

Looked up his bio and he was prior general of his order at the time.

I was thinking he might have been serving at a parish (I'd recognize my pastor if I saw him in the crowd at a Saints game.)
