Pope Leo XIV's religious order still mired in secrecy over child sex abuse

quote:

The new pope, Chicago area native Robert Prevost, has faced criticism for not doing more to encourage his religious order, the Augustinians, to embrace transparency over the decades-long sex abuse crisis.

quote:

The main knock against Prevost has been perceived inaction on improving transparency in his order over sex abuse.

But he has faced more direct criticism based on the findings of a 2021 Chicago Sun-Times story that the Augustinians had, while he was in charge of the Augustinians in Chicago in 2000, allowed an accused pedophile priest to live at a South Side monastery without telling a nearby Catholic elementary school the man was there.

Progressives love pedophiles, unless they can pin the pedophiles as part of a Christian sect.

Frick the pope and the media.

completely agree.

He also is TDS infected-see his comments re Vance. Clearly not an honest, stable, nor reasonable man.

That, and his love of open borders combined with his hatred for Trump and especially for JD Vance.

His tweets about Vance almost seem like it’s personal.

Covering for those who hurt the innocent among us is absolutely reprehensible.

The majority of the world lost their minds in 2020.

Catholic Church has been pretty consistent about their stance on migration. You don’t have to agree with it. In his first homily this morning he mentioned how it important it is to recognize the current problems that exist with immigration and ensuring we approach it in a humane way. Much difference than the Francis approach.

I’m not sure what some of you were expecting.

Also, I view it as a sign of optimism that a liberal media outlet is already drawing swords on Pope Leo, let me assure you if Cardinal Tagle had been elected to the papacy, it would be nothing but puff pieces.

Same for Parolin. You would have heard nothing about his checkered past.

While I am for exposing and putting a light on the problem.

It is the legal system and attorneys that will bankrupt the institution from all the civil claims legitimate ones and illegitimate ones too.

It is time to move on and let the past be the past. I am sure everyone has done something stupid in their life that they wish they could take back. And no matter how much good a person does, our society will only look at the negatives that the person has done and cast them in that light.

Unbelievable. Child rape en masse is not, "doing something stupid." The proper, moral thing to do is to take responsibility for decades upon decades of, "doing something stupid."

My only regret is that I cannot downvote you twice.

Any leader that covered up sexual abuse of children disqualifies themselves from leadership.

There are some sins that are ministry-ending and covering up sexual abuse of minors is definitely one of them.

Is the Chicago Sun Times leftist? It matters not, did they print these same complaints of Francis marred in the cover up of grotesque sexual abuse as well?

No matter what the sex abuse nor any Pope---will not detain me from the Blessed Sacrament of the Mass and my faith.

I feel bad for Catholics, I believe the vast majority are good folks who just wanna live their lives but sadly the Roman Catholic Church is now and has been the most crooked organization in the world. We think our government is bad but the movers and shakers at The Vatican are the worst.

It’s the Catholic Church so nobody should be surprised by them protecting pedophiles unless you haven’t paid attention the last few decades.

It's been said many times but still bears repeating. Individual priests molested kids. The church covered it up.
