Weber Summit Kamado grill

Anyone have experience with this grill?
Putting my gravity smoker out to pasture, I was leaning towards a Joe or BGE but I kind of like the versatility of this one…plus not as heavy or fragile as the ceramics.

I will purchase one in the near future for the exact reason you listed, plus it's durability to be a "Last grill purchased" type equipment.
I am currently culling through and cleaning up three older webers to sell, a late 90's NG Genesis with side burner-red head, an 18' kettle, a 22 1/2" kettle, a mini joe smoker build and an 18" WSM. I will also have a weber performer for sal once I secure the purchase on A Weber Summit Kamado.

I’ve had mine for four plus years now and love it. Use it three to five times a week. Works just like a kamado and can set it up for indirect smoking for 24 hours plus or set it up for cooking a steak at 700 plus degrees.
Advantages over a ceramic.
1) Much lighter to move around on the patio
2) Made out of metal so don’t have to worry about it cracking or tipping over.
3) Can use briquettes or lump
4) Cheaper than BGE, Primo and KJ when you factor what comes with it.
5) Best ash management system.
6) Easier to bring temps down if you overshoot. The temps are very reactive to the dampers.

These were the big selling points for me

Have you done any long cooks on it ?

Where are you thinking of buying one from?

Throwing out some offers on greentoe first and then go from there

A bunch. It holds temp without any adjustments once the you have the temp dialed in. For 250 I usually set the bottom damper to the smoke setting and then adjust the top which is usually around 1/4 open. It will go 24 hours plus on a single load of charcoal.

Watch Facebook marketplace. I watched for about a year and found the original with the table for $1,175 new in the box.
But I would’ve paid full price now after having it. I don’t use any of my other puts at all and will probably have this the rest of my life.

I’ve heard from multiple award winning bbq guys that weber summit kamado is far superior to joe and BGE
BGE was great 15 years ago but is kind of a joke by today’s standards

This.
I’ve heard the same from serious pitmasters. The Weber Summit Kamado is just on another level compared to BGE and Kamado Joe. It heats up faster, holds temp rock solid, and gives you better airflow control than most ceramic grills. Plus, no worries about cracking like with a BGE. Kamado Joe brought some solid innovations a few years ago, but lately they’ve been leaning into gimmicks.
Weber just built a tank that cooks like a dream. Honestly, BGE hasn’t kept up—they were great 15 years ago, but today they feel stuck in the past.

that looks like a much more expensive Chargriller Akorn Kamado, which is $399. For $450, you can splurge and get the Akorn Auto Kamado which includes the digital control to maintain the temp you want.
I would seriously look into the Chargriller prior to spending an extra $1000 for the Weber name.

lol, my friend had an acorn and it lasted about five years. Plus an acorn is only 18 inches compared to the 24 inches on the Weber.

BGE has become pretty lame with their warranty stuff and registration, leaving a lot of BGE loyalists just SOL.
So in lieu of spending a couple hundred bucks to replace ceramic internals I'm probably looking for alternatives, and the Summit is top of list.

I got two offers in on greentoe…the 24in for 1,332 and the 57in with the igniter for about 2k, that’s after tax and shipping

quote:cool. I had an Akorn that lasted about 12 before I sold it. It was in perfect condition with no rust. I figured I'd get downvoted and people would bash this because it doesn't have the Weber name.

If the OP wants to spend 3x as much on a very similar product, good for him. I was just offering an alternative that is made very similarly for much less money. Oh, and the Akorn has a 2nd rack on top to increase the cooking surface area. I think it ends up being 7 sq ft less than the Weber.
Either way, I think the OP will like his purchase.

Can you fit a whole rack of rib without cutting them in half? How about a whole brisket? The summit Kamado also has an extender rack accessory for like $30 that creates a lot more cooking space too.

Ooo good looking out, didn’t see Costco carried them until now
