For those who are older, was there a CWS LSU won with less talent than 2025 LSU?

All I can remember where I was actually into and understood what was going on was 2023. There were some dudes. Obviously #1 and #2 pick in draft. Almost impossible to replicate that again. But then you had Tommy White, Tre Morgan, Beloso hitting a walkoff in CWS final. Over half the team with 15 HRs. More talented than the team now which is like saying 2011 or 2007 Football was less talented than 2019. It isn't a bad thing. Were there teams who won a CWS less talent than this year?

Skip’s early teams were talented but played above their capabilities.

As far as champs, 2000 comes to mind. I believe Stanford was the better team.

Similarly, I felt the 1998 LSU team was better than USC and Arizona State.

eta: I misread your thread.

Miami was a better team talent wise than us in 1996 too.

Let's break that down. One, a 12 year old probably can't assess the talent of a college baseball team relative to other years that well, so that could lead 28. 2nd, there are people who don't like the sport, but then get into it later on. That could leave any age. 3rd, there could be someone who wasn't an LSU fan, didn't care about the game, then became one by some means later on, which could leave any age again. Good job.

Not necessarily an answer to your question…. but 2009 was my personal favorite lineup that we ever had. I loved that lineup

DJ LeMahieu 2b
Ryan Schimpf LF
Blake Dean dh
Sean Ochinko 1b
Jared Mitchell rf
Mikie Mahtook cf
Micah Gibbs c
Derek Helenihi 3b
Austin Nola SS

Ace pitcher: Ranaudo
Ace#2 Coleman
Matty Ott to close the door on games

All of them except 2023. The talent in NCAA baseball is much greater since the MLB draft shortened in 2020

It was just a question. There is nothing wrong with being 15. Hell, I wish I was still 15.

I feel like this is the least amount of “dogs” (as the youth would say) we would have ever had if we win the CWS this year

Hell I’m 37 with 3 kids and the only title teams I can say I have true “knowledge” of is 09 and 23

2000 I followed with clear memory but I was 12 so dumb as shite

Don’t forget Tyler Hanover who played a huge role on that team and started most of the season at 3B

Fun fact: He’s the LSU all-time leader in career sacrifice bunts

Being a student at LSU from 96-00 didn't suck from a baseball standpoint. I don't want to talk about football

The 2000 team was loaded. Literally like 5 big leaguers on that team. Brad Hawpe still arguably the best 1st baseman we’ve ever had in my opinion

Probably not. The good thing is that I don't think there's any team in the country better than any of LSU's 7 national championship teams.

2009 lineup was awesome. I think about that team a lot. I was 12 at the time, so it was the first CWS team that I watched and remembered. Bunch of kids that wanted to get after it every single game. We had some tough mother frickers on that squad.

Never forget watching Coleman pitch the last few pitches and my dad looking over at me and saying “this is cool to experience, make sure you remember it.”

I still do to this day.

I was 12 for the Morris home run and I can still remember everything about that day, same way you never forget where you were for 9/11. Back then it was catching a few games a year on cox sports.

Plenty of dogs on this team.
